PAF Pilots looking over RSAF typhoon procurement?

well its a very good news..PAF pilots will have first hand experience of one of the world's most formidable and advanced war machine.

The most unique thing about EF is is extra large canard which makes it stand out. There are planes with canards but not as big as the EF.
Although its a double edge sword,at subsonic speeds it makes the plane highly maneuverable and agile, but at trans sonic and super sonic speeds canards are a feature from hell, making the plane instable.
How they achieve stability with canards at supersonic speeds, must be their trade secret. And then there is the top secret suprecruise.
May be PAF pilots can learn all those inside secrets with this golden opportunity.

So this is the reason i have met so many PAF fighter pilots in the UK.;)

This and the English Chicks.... ;)
The new generation of PAF pilots are mostly "Happy go lucky" type..Gone are the days when they were proud of a heritage, and Proud Muslims.

I totally disagree with you,I wish i could say ''Things'' on this forum but its better for me to keep quite for the time being.;)

Typhoon is just a hyped up toy , and with estimated delivery times of 10 years its not an ideal plane for Pakistan , our J10B and JF17 is ideal for us with , introduction of a 5th generation plane 15-20 planes etc should be enough for Pakistan

The idea that the j-10 is ideal for us, while the Rafale or Eurofighter is not, is contradictory in its very nature. So it only makes sense to buy an aircraft that is inferior to it's European counterparts, even if the job performed by both is the same? I agree from a political and monetary perspective nothing makes more sense than Chinese equipment and these concerns often take precedence over raw capabilities...but still, if we ever had the money, the Eurofighter would be a superb aircraft to have, a true air superiority jet...well, until the PAK-FA shows, when the game of catch up begins once again.

Well the whole ideal of inferiority is just a figment of imagination.

Radar technology is run on same principles , world wide , and Chinese programmers and software engineers are light years ahead of Europeans and to be honest most Chinese workers are actually working in Western companies to build their Avionics in most cases.

China has been matching western industries , step for a step for past 10 years, and in next 5 years that gap will almost diminish.

Euro fighter - is a hyped up plane, what makes people so convinced that it is anything special

The only source of its greatness is the , news articles written (sponsored) by the same western governments that are actually also selling the plane , of course they will say its the best thing that ever happened to man kind

Facts remain:
a) Its just a plane and untested plane
b) Its has a nice radar but otherwise its same as any other 4th generation plane with its pros and cons
c) Can it win in a dog fight sure, but can it lose - yes why not of course it can

Does this plane offer something breath taking that seperates it from other 4th generation planes ? Not really its just like any other plane just it happens to be little advanced in term of its design and electronics but that is a marginal performance matter

Unless the plane disppears in thin air and teleports I won't say its anything special

In battle scenario
5 typhoons vs 5 J10B , I am sure the J10B can hold its own , with its latest missiles and agility which is not not second to typhoons

I see your point...but there must be some sort of advantage the Europeans must have from having developed advanced fighter aircraft since the very inception of planes in warfare. But you could be right, there is so little official and authentic information available about the Chinese aircraft that they may very be able to hold their own against their European counterparts, and that is what the PAF is betting on.

I mean if we compare Chinese Engineering , JF17 thunder - F16 are absolutely a perfect match , based on videos on youtube, the turn rate and performance I mean we are talking about JF17 thunder

Now when we talk about the J10B which is backbone of Chinese airspace , and it can carry more missiles and bombs , its a more capable plane in term of its capabilities , of course this plane will be superior to F16 , and together with the AESA research going on in China , once its inducted it will be no different then the Rafale or Typhoon.

Of course the plane can't do vertical landing , and that is why Pentegon is so SERIOUS about vertical landing because that is the biggest feature of the f35 , and stealth

Yes F35 is more advanced then J10B but Typhoon and Rafale , right in ball park for J10B

The catch however is

a) F35 is billions and billions of dollar's worth unaffordable for small air forces
b) Typhoon has a huge waiting line over 10 years probably

That leaves ppl with only Rafale the plane not alot of people want which can be bought in short time not that its technically any better then J10B or even Thunder

One of the biggest advantages that US planes used to enjoy used to be the BVR missile but China has already mastered these BVR technology , and its only matter of years before AESA technology is also mastered

There is absolutely no basis for Pakistan Airforce to get Typhoon - expensive toy you get the same output from it as J10B , and you have to wait 10 years, and also you might get a down graded version

J10B gives you the TOP OF THE LINE !!! Fully loaded !!

The only difference I saw in European technology was "design superficial elements " look and feel the panels and displays etc but even that the Chinese have bridged that gap

For me F35 is the plane , and F22, that is clearly above J10B but in numbers the advantage can change but Typhoon or Rafale are just another 4th generation plane with enhancements

The EF was well loved by PAF pilots..
and it is a tragic fact that due to political reasons we could not go for it.
still.. the J-10 is a good fallback.. or rather the J-10B is.. we worked very closely with the Chinese to let them know what we want out of the jet.. and for all reports.. they seem to have delivered.

I am not too sure about it dear, once we went to RAF Leuchars Airshow where the EF was to perform, it never did due to some weather condition,..... just last month, some event for British Armed Forces took place, EF was scheduled along with Red Arrows and Tornadoes etc. In the end, the only thing missing was the EF, as I understand, there was a slight drizzle on at the hour.

But this leads us to nowhere, if you're pointing to the vulnurability of platform to weather (correct me if i am wrong), then designers would have certainly taken into account the weather conditions in Europe while designing this machine since it was envisaged as a fighter for Europe rather than ME or Subconitinent. There may be other issues which are not known to us, yet the bad weather as a drag serves no argument

It has been tested In humid conditions in Bangalore, high temperature conditions in Rajastan as well as in Leh at high altitudes. It came out as one of the good performer in those tests.
