PAF ordered to shoot down US drones invading Pakistani airspace: Air Chief Sohail Aman

Whatever the reason, we filed to give appropriate response and faced humiliation. Pak forces have the capacity to take on any challenge, will was (or is) not there. Armed forces are the defenders of our nation...Noora told kiyani stand down and message passed to Air Chief and he ordered back jets. I remember Air Chief saying our radars were OFF because we do not monitor that side 24/7.

Lets hope and pray we do not repeat the same again and show with our actions that we are serious.

Let me ask you this, when was the last time this explicit red line is drawn from the top level? He is just not talking about drones but maned jets as well. Do you understand he is putting his neck on line with these very blunt warnings. He is no mug, he can't make these statements without backing of the capability. What happened to Iranian drone on Baluchistan border is clear indication that capability and capacity to keep the vigil of western aerial front has increased many fold.

Iran bought down a U.S stealth drone and America done nothing.
They have even reverse engineered it.

Pakistan should also stop U.S supply route and get out of this war on
terror.

Look mate. No PAF chief will dare and I will say it again dare shoot a drone down. When it happens let me know.

*Hint: Every F-16 will run out of spare parts.
oh i so agree with you in that!
No chief downs a drone or jet ever, its the pilot who lock em does!
The chief just give orders!

Yes the consequences are the problem not detecting or shooting down UAV.

Do you have any idea how much power US has compare to Pakistan that "consequences will not one side" will not matches the destruction you will face.

Tell that to North Korea

trust me this consequence would not be one sided
What many here tend to forget is that taking on a nuclear power just because you have raptors is no joke nor will it achieve anything.
Yeah it will down our jets but that also means if a large part of our air assets are destroyed and we can no longer defend ourselves against India, that will revoke a nuclear response from us. Do the Americans intend to go that far just because Pakistan shot down their drone which was violating our airspace?
And even if no nuclear response from Pakistan is carried out, do the Americans really want to severely degrade Pakistan capability to protect its nuclear assets from terrorist groups who would seize this opportunity to get their hands on any nuclear weapon they may find?
And lastly if US is going to take India on board to cripple Pakistan, will China sit idle and allow its billions to go to waste and the whole obor project?

Yes, you are right. lets hope we use more diplomatic channels to avoid these situations and avoid direct confrontation, and be ready to deal with any aggression.
Thank You for your positive input.

Then stop sounding like those "Pakistanis"
Correction starts at home....start it within yourself and starts seeing things differently and things will become different ;)

Yes, Thank for the motivation, I hope this change reach to the persons concerned and chain of command at top level. I am talking based on the previous experiences and hoping this reminder will make a change as well.

Thank You Sir.

and do you think america will engage its entire assets in to a war which will end up in to confirmed defeat ? so far in Afghanistan america has spent about 2 Trillion Dollars, American causalities in Afghanistan up to 2016 were 2,386 about 1,173 american civilian contractors killed up to same year, on the other hand and about 20,049 servicemen were wounded and the entire force is fighting against about 25,000 to 30,000 Talibans so if some one is thinking that they will bomb our assets and will walk away then its a fools dreaming it would have its own repercussion in a long run, trust me if american were able to do that in past they might have done it by now already....

I think some days back @Khafee made a comment about raptors inability to cross Pakistan undetected due to some passive radar system. Is it true?
Disclosure can be deliberate or due to an MOU. Google "F22 Raptor RCS enhancer."

Passive radar systems are not renowned for their accuracy, mind you.

Another thing is that timing is of the essence in combat situations. Chances are good that USAF will knock out all radar systems in a region before they can be effective in detecting an F-22 Raptor or two.

Afghanistan represents one of the least costly wars to the US in terms of men and materials actually. Moreover, Afghanistan is not a good analogy for comparison with a relatively much more developed and conventional military power like Pakistan. American armed forces specialize in countering a conventional military opponent, not a bunch of ragtag terrorists who do not wear any uniform and employ all kinds of (dirty/questionable) tactics to harm their opponents.

In order to get an idea that how a 'conventional war' with the US may turn out, look at Operation Desert Storm (1991), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003) and Operation Neptune Spear (2011).

But sir who says that in case of war Pakistan will only use coventional tactics? If USA attacks Pakistan it would be under the cover of attacking millitant hide outs. Those areas or hide outs are not used in any conventional way. They can use their air power but as reply Pakistan can also raise hell in afghanistan in more than one ways. Helping Talibans or forcibly sending back refugees etc. I am no expert but in my opnion war if it ever happens wont be conventional mostly. An all out dlibrate attack on Pakistani forces would make Pakistan Govt. a party to the conflict and that too on the side of the enemies. I dont think USA would like that.

A neutral question, if Pakistani air assets are disabled and destroyed ( which the Americans and considering the Indians might join are very capable of joining ) , would China not be dragged in ? Would the Pakistani administration not nuke India and American assets say naval fleet. I mean the country itself would practically be conquered so would it not make a last stand and still after that carry out large scale guerrilla warfare by trained professional soldiers ?

Contrary to the popular belief, numerous radar systems were functioning on that night but people tend to forget that US have the capability to jam and/or fool radar systems (of all sorts) through different technological avenues. We learned about the stealthy aspect of the choppers but we do not know much about other assets in use at the time which might have complicated the ability of PAF to notice something suspicious during the course of the operation.

This is coming from the ACM of the time:

"The Air Chief said the PAF was always ready to respond to any identified threat and there were SOPs in place for whenever the PAF radars noticed any unusual activity, and a process started automatically as information was also conveyed to the Chief of Air Staff. However, he said there were no SOPs for actions in response to telephone calls. This was an important distinction since in the case of the Abbottabad incident the PAF radars did not notice any unusual activity."

Source: Abbottabad Commission Report

The PAF was literally blinded on that day. There are additional clues and hints in the same report that imply as much.

Stealthy choppers were just a part of the equation on that day, I assure you. Much more was involved including a stealth drone.

And here some people are talking about detecting F-22 Raptors during combat situations with some kind of magical passive radar technologies. The gullibility of this nation....

I mean whom are these people trying to fool? US has developed and fielded the most powerful radar systems on the planet (some having the ability to detect an object the size of a golf ball thousands of miles away from the location of the radar system itself with a high degree of accuracy). US have also developed and/or fielded some of the most powerful (passive) radar systems in existence. And if they assert that F-22 Raptors can operate safely even in the most hostile of environments, we should take their claims seriously. It is not like as if Russia and/or China have figured out something that is unique in the matter of radar systems that Americans are unaware of.

I dont think this is going to happen. Its just bravado.

Much weaker nations like Vietnam have fought valiantly against the invading Americans. I dont think Pakistan has the will or capability to fight Americans.

Drones crossing into Pakistan and firing weapons at targets is an act of aggression but over the past decade, Pakistan has only 'protested'. We still dont know how honest those protests have been.

At the same time, drones crossing from India have been shot down at once. This tells me that the country has capability to shoot down small targets but it does not have the will to take on a larger aggressor. Or is simply complicit in this crime.
