PAC upgrading Super Mushshak aircraft for counter-insurgency operations

When we bought the rights, we bought the full rights to make, modify, and sell.

Hi,

So---it seems like that Pak has received permission from the swedes to upgrade this aircraft with weapons---.

If I remember correctly---they were not authorized to put weapons on it.

I fail to understand why we are always looking for expensive and complicated stuff. This Mod has certain advantages like Low Cost - Any other option like Hurkus will require resources and especially manpower. Why to invest in such venture when you have K-8s and T-37s.

Then those talking about the firepower, Pakistan's main threat is now terrorism not India
. And we have already cleared the area so now for next 5-10 years we will be going after hidden elements or IBOs. So we dont need to invest in such heavy payload capacity.

Then obviously the maintenance aspect of this simple piston engine aircraft is much more simpler then those turboprop jets like Hurkus and A-29s.

Those talking UAV, well they must know that UAVs have still limitations and they cant be rapidly deployed like manned aircraft. So this Mushak can be an excellent armed scout for CPEC

Boy, are you in trouble now.... @MastanKhan is on the prowl.

sargy why put the operators life in jeopardy and why not go for Burraq ucav's for coin missions ?

We have already ca. 200 Mushaks, and Buraq must be build while Mushak is already ready to fly, so imagine ca. 50 armed Mushaks along the PAK-Afghan Border and patrol duties over Balochistan! New Pilots can do patrol duty as their training program, we save extra costs for the patrol duty!

ustaad g this "super aircraft" is prone to be shot down by using a simple g3

Sir jee!! AA Gun typical range is 5000 ft AGL. SMK can fly easily at 8000 ft AGL. Detect the target with ISR Camera and engage the target with this thing FT-10. Its not going to make the old fashioned rocket attack

.
If I'm not wrong even tho this plane is for NAF, if PA does use it wouldn't they use it from 8-10 km away to launch missile? Can mechanical AA operator even see the plane from that far ?

that sir I knew but , why put our pilots life in harms way when we've got dedicated aerial assets for this particular role

Flexibility.
Burraq may not be available in all theatres of battle field. Whichever platform is available, it should be sent. Availability, serviceability, other constraints are all kept in mind when weapons are operated.

Payload.
Mushak can carry more A2G armament for a single sortie. i think it also has capability to fire A2A or was it the other trainer, cant remember.

Numbers.
Enemy is bigger than us, need all hands on deck to counter emerging and continuous threats.

Mushak is vulnerable to many threats.
If its cockpit and structural protection is increased through more armour, its performance will also be affected, will need a bigger engine.
If its upgraded with better radar to control UCAV's like Burraq then budget constraints are highlighted.

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) is tailoring its Super Mushshak trainer for counterinsurgency (COIN) operations.

As per IHS Jane’s, PAC configured the Super Mushshak to carry an L3 Wescam MX-10 electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) pod. This was done in response to customers probing if the Super Mushshak can be offered as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platform.

Weighing 16.7 kg, the lightweight MX-10 EO/IR pod with optional laser rangefinder and illuminator.

PAC is also working to integrate the Chinese FT-10, a 25-kg precision-guided bomb (PGB), to the Super Mushshak. If successful, the Super Mushshak would carry one FT-10 on each wing.

The FT-10 – like its FT-siblings – is a free-fall satellite-aided inertial navigation system (GPS/INS) PGB; its range varies at its launch altitude.

These subsystems will also accompany a new digital cockpit, one enabling the aircrew to view the MX-10 EO/IR pod’s feed as well as to manage the increased workload from deploying guided weapons.

It is not known when the attack and ISR-enabled Super Mushshak will be ready for use, IHS Jane’s was told by PAC that “it would take some time to verify and physically validate the findings of the aerodynamic analysis” done to the platform.

Notes & Comments:

As a GPS/INS-guided PGB, the FT-10 is intended for lightly protected fixed installations. A lightweight laser-guided munition, such as the 22.5 kg Roketsan MAM-L, would enable the Super Mushshak to engage both moving and fixed targets (provided the MX-10 EO/IR pod is equipped with a laser-illuminator).

While this will add to the Super Mushshak’s portfolio of roles, the armed Super Mushshak would not be in the same category as larger COIN platforms. It has a substantially lighter payload, less defensibility against anti-air warfare threats, and is not as agile (especially when armed). However, current and potential Super Mushshak users could view the Super Mushshak as a versatile basic trainer, one capable of undertaking special mission roles when required.
