PA Cobra hunting Uzbek TTP

Mate, no fun. Find some video where we can all enjoy Talibitches dying like dogs, specially some Uzbeks and their local collaborators, the Mehsuds. I'd love to see them all fried on video! :D

Cobra pilots did their best. Technology became their main hurdle. An HMDS would have saved precious time they took in turning the helicopter and aligning their line of fire plus the time to detect bogies visually and make sense of where fire is coming from

Overall, video points out the general hazardous conditions in which our cobra pilots have to work, Lowering their helicopter and risk of taking fire, trying to make the best of ancient tech plus the forking noise of cobra which alerts the terrorists from miles away

You can still install an FLIR on these "vintage" cobras and they will do the job just fine.

FLIR is already installed on it

Its not just about having a FLAIR sensor. Its about the avionics, tracking software, data link, situation awareness that matters. There are two cobras hanging out, had it been two Apaches these rats wouldn't have been able to hide from its optical and radar sensors.

Our cobra's don't FLIR systems installed?

Some do have it installed, the ones that were delivered post 9/11.

That's the thing. The taliban never opened fire on the Cobra. If they had they would have been dead. Those first shots you hear are from the Cobra as well. If you listen from 2:30 onwards, just when the firing ends you can hear the distinctive sound of the Cobra's vulcan firing. In combat the bullets are hitting near you make the first sound, and then comes the sound of the gun firing if its coming from a distance. If the Taliban had been firing you would never have been able to distinguish between the two sounds.

Not all cobras. Just the post 9/11 ones. ALthough i believe some of the earlier ones have been upgraded too, but not all of them.

Some of the comments on LL were saying that the gunships were trying to bait the Uzbeks into firing and exposing their location.

Also, it could have been that the gunships were trying to lure them away from the civilian area, because you could hear the cannon fire hitting the ground near them.

Hi,

Now add 3 MI 35 gunships to the equation instead of the cobra---and a sentry observation plane flying overhead----the MI 35's dropping troops for the ground sweep and gunships giving cover from overhead.
Also Mi-28 firing some missiles over their asses!

Don't worry boys keep the talibuties running and you shall have more mi-28 made in India with love delivered.

They are right. Also the cobra was giving them directions. Like the last barrage thats fired on the puddle. That was the pilots way of saying dont go there.

You are right but in this situation a FLIR system alone would have sufficed since the pilot was unable to see the talibs hiding under tree shade etc.

It seemed more like briefed planed task than a search and destroy mission. Probably paving the way for infantry.

Mi-28s are not suited for this kind of role.
Then what role they have, if not killing these talibunies? If the cobra had fired some missiles, they would have been dead.
