More than half of Bangladesh’s estimated 160 million-strong population, or over 80 million, access the internet and nearly 75 million of them browse the web on mobile phones, according to telecom regulators.




Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission or BTRC in a recent report said the internet connections in the country stood at 81.66 million at the end of November.

The BTRC report published on its website also said the country's four mobile operators now have 143.1 million customers.

A total of 5,342,000 internet users are connected to internet service providers or public switch telephone network while 88,000 are hooked to WiMAX.

Around the same time last year, the number of internet users was 65.93 million, the report added.

i doubt the data as Pakistan claims its internet users to be around 50 million and Bangladesh 80 million....i never see Bangladesh strong presence over internet.....for e.g just most watched Pakistani, indians and bangladeshi videos in Youtube you will get an idea of Banladeshi people presence Top ten most watched Pakistani videos are all having 50 to 115 million views while indians videos are more then 100 million while most watched Bangladeshis videos are almost none of major with few million views that shows the presence of these 3 countries in internet. yuo may take other examples as well.

It can be a cause, Indians also like to watch Hindi/Urdu songs from Pakistan, even Bangladeshis. I have seen some BD songs touched 25 million. But BD viewership is exclusively Bengali oriented. And I myself have 4 active connections. There can be some faults in measurements. FB is more popular in BD, majority of the activities are in there.

Well, I have never been into any BD PK or IND videos of any type, doesn't mean I don't have internet. BD isn't known for it's TV industry anyway. It's IND, and to an extent PK.

I am always on youtube but never on anything that is related to BD IND or PK. My views won't count as per your method. As I said before, BD isn't known for it's TV industry and by that I mean in BD people not foreigners. I don't think I have ever seen a full Bangla movie in my life. You get the general point. We just don't see our movies or such as anything worth watching and we don't. You can find me on videos that doesn't have anything to do with BD but that wouldn't get counted per your internet connection requirements

Must be mistake, if 11 million rose in just the past year alone, the total can't be only 26 million.

No just wanted to give clue of internet statistic from neutral site. The 26 million number is provided by FB, that is total social media penetration including FB. And 22 million number is exclusively FB users only around Dhaka. But all FB accounts arent active all the time. So this source got a general number from the country.

In India, there are at least 600-700 million people whose first language is Hindi/Urdu and they are a big part of viewers of Pakistani program.While Indian Bengali are barely 100 million and they are not much interested in Bangladeshi program.Another thing is, Pakistan has some big youtube channel specially drama channel like ARY Digital, Coke studio whose subscription are more than a million.But in Bangladesh, most of the big youtube channel are mid range like 300k-600k range.So if you compile top ten channel of each country, than Pakistan will be much higher.But still, even with mostly domestic viewers, a lot of Bangladeshi music videos are in 10-25 million view range, a lot of movies and drama has 5-12 million views.
