Indeed a very sad number.
So yesterday a (white guy) owner of a local restaurant here asked me the reasons as to why India is suffering so many Covid illnesses and deaths. He asked whether it was 'the hygiene' issue in the population or only the older people are getting sick and dying.

US has the biggest fatalities in Covid, they shd have know better than anyone else how Covid spreads and kills.

didn't have a good answer but I replied that the actual number of deaths are far more than reported and that it was a deadly combination of mass-rallies and congregations where millions breathed out the Virus in big dozes around them in close proximity.

Nothing to do with mass rallies or Kumbh mela. These are canard spread by lazy reporting and pointless Modi baiting.

The places like Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, even Kerala or Karnataka in the south didn't have election rallies and are far off from Kumbh mela which was held on one place, that is Haridwar in Uttarakhand which itself didn't see a big spike Covid cases.

Surge in covid cases in India is related to Mutant variants namely the UK variant in the North and Indian variant in West and South.

Many Indians in the comments to the video posted has written even the one million figure is on a safer side, a modest figure, it could still be higher with many quoted a figure of around 3 million.

Brazil with a population of around 200 million is getting about 4000 deaths daily.

India with a population of 1360 million(7 times that of Brazil) is getting an official figure which is equal to Brazil, 4000 deaths daily.

Massive under reporting by the controlled media, and now restrictions being imposed in crematoriums and hospitals not to cite any figures to independent media.

Under reporting and fudged figure giving is a hallmark of Modi's BJP, in growth figures, in economy, so giving fudged figures here is nothing new or surprising.

The reason, if you have observed it, there is a huge surge in viewership of the Wire, the Print, CRUX, Quint, the MOJO and other independent small media houses run which you call them presstitute, Librandus or Sickulars, by the local Indians earlier watching the mainstream Godi media.

WHY?? the reason is simple, the Indians knew that mainstream Indian media will not give the correct numbers so they switched to the independent channels mentioned above, huge increase in numbers watching these channels during pandemic.

The Wire caters opposition parties of India and their supporters.
There are dozen other media house who works on similar line. And they are free to air and they have their viewership. Indian govt doesn't censors them.
