Indeed a very sad number.
So yesterday a (white guy) owner of a local restaurant here asked me the reasons as to why India is suffering so many Covid illnesses and deaths. He asked whether it was 'the hygiene' issue in the population or only the older people are getting sick and dying. I didn't have a good answer but I replied that the actual number of deaths are far more than reported and that it was a deadly combination of mass-rallies and congregations where millions breathed out the Virus in big dozes around them in close proximity.

Till April this year, oxygen requirement in hospitals only doubled since the start of the pandemic. Case numbers had come down to less than 10k so much so the covid facilitates were dismantled in Delhi.

Since April there has been much bigger spike with Mutants and some deaths occurred due to non availability oxygen and hospital beds. But they can't more than two to three time than the official figures and count wasn't this high on every day.

More over places like Mumbai have come out of the wood with case n deaths coming down. Delhi hospital corridors are also getting cleared of patients too.

US and UK had 5% death rate. India is at around 1.5%. Even if its triple of being reported we are still better than others.
