Over 600,000 small cultivators to benefit from Rs100 bn interest-free loan: Shahbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that vast potential exists in agriculture, livestock and dairy farming sectors and sustainable development of the sectors would help strengthen the economy along with poverty alleviation and decreasing joblessness.

The chief minister expressed these views while talking with a delegation of MNAs and MPAs associated with the agriculture sector. “Keeping in view the key importance of the agriculture sector, solid steps have been taken for the promotion of agriculture, livestock and dairy farming sectors and interest free loans worth Rs100 billion are being provided to small farmers for the first time in the history of the country,” he added.

He said, “The agriculture sector will grow as a result of the provision of interest-free loans and small farmers would prosper.

The loan programme has been expanded in a transparent manner by using latest technology and more than six lakh small farmers will benefit from the programme. Steps are being taken on priority for the promotion of agriculture and betterment of small farmers.”

EXPLORATION: A meeting was held here with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair. The meeting reviewed progress in exploration of iron ore reserves in Chiniot-Rajwa as well as progress in the second phase of the project. The chief minister said that work was being started on the second phase of the project for the exploration of iron ore in Chiniot-Rajwa along with its assessment.

“An agreement has been signed with German company Fugro for the exploration of underground minerals and their exact assessment. The German company will submit its report after a survey of mineral resources in the Punjab,” he added. The chief minister also spoke German in the meeting. The German experts expressed their pleasure over the conversation in their language.

DELEGATION: A delegation of Swansea University of the Great Britain called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The British delegation was headed by Vice President of Swansea University and Chairman Medical Research Center Prof Marc Clement. The British University showed interest in setting up its campus at Lahore Knowledge Park. Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said that the Lahore Knowledge Park project was a milestone in empowering the youth.
