Our Armed Forces Are Fully Ready, Warns Defence Minister After Pakistan Firing: 10 Developments

Here are 10 big developments in this story:
  1. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley who was discharged from hospital today after a long illness warned, "Let everybody be assured that our armed forces and para-military forces are fully ready and they are responding to each of these provocations from Pakistan."
  2. The civilian casualties were largely from the village of Arnia about three kilometres from the border. The shells landed near a bus stand and houses in Arnia in the early hours of Monday.
  3. "I've never seen such massive firing. Bombs were falling on houses," Vijay Kumar, an injured villager, told NDTV.
  4. Pakistani forces also shelled at least 10 Indian army posts along the Line of Control, according to army officials in Kashmir. Gunfire continued between the two sides in those areas on Monday, they said.
  5. Lieutenant-Colonel Brijesh Panday said the army also shot dead three Pakistani-based militants trying to cross into India. Two militants escaped back to Pakistan, he said.
  6. India says last night's is the 11th violation by Pakistan in October alone of the ceasefire struck between the countries in 2003.
  7. Sources tell NDTV that the Border Security Force and the army which guard the Line of Control have been retaliating with heavy fire. Pakistan claims four of its civilians were killed last night in firing from India.
  8. In a deviation from tradition, Indian and Pakistani troops manning the border in Wagah did not exchange sweets on the festival of Eid today.
  9. The deaths overnight mark the heaviest toll since India called off a round of talks with Pakistan last month after its officials insisted on consulting Kashmiri separatists ahead of the proposed summit in Islamabad.
  10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised many observers by inviting Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his inauguration in May. But relations have soured since then.

I will be pretty glad when hopefully later this month Jaitley is relieved of the Defence ministry. His health barely permits running of any ministries, certainly not big ones like Finance & Defence together. We need a full time defence minister & fast, not one who I suspect, will be a regular visitor to the hospital.

. . .
if they were/are ready why didnt they react in the first place ????

sounds a bit stupid......

you get pushed.... fall.....break your bones....then you tie a pillow and show readiness

no point of highlighting the violations done....

there have been violations by india too.....India isnt clean either....if you look at the details...its disgusting

A Defence Minister ( and possibly a different Finance Minister )is needed urgently. Jaitley ji should take rest.

.
is it true that most of the pakistani bunkers near LoC have terrorists in them , like some mujahideen regiment (BAT) ?

Who would be the possible candidate?

Not clear at all. Arun Shouries might have been good but his name doesn't crop up much anymore. Can't think of anyone else who looks a natural shoo-in. However Jaitley needs to be relieved.

Does this look like Pakistan based militants ?

An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement issued on Monday said that Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel resorted to “unprovoked firing” along the working boundary in Sialkot as a result of which four people were killed whereas five others sustained injuries.

Details of those killed at the working boundary:

  • Salima Bibi w/o Abdul Ghani — Village Dhamala
  • Adeel Ahmed (age 10 yrs) s/o Mohd Jamil — Village Dhamala
  • Hamad Ahmed (age 4 yrs) s/o Mohd Jamil — Village Dhamala
  • Abdul Razak (age 65 yrs) s/o Lal Din — Village Tulsipur

Three of the injured five were identified as:

  • Mohammad Ishaq (age 70 yrs) s/o Shukar Din — Village Tulsipur
  • Mohammadd Rashim (age 72 yrs) s/o Mola Bush — Village Dhamala
  • Kashif (age 10 yrs) s/o Mohd Butta — Village Harpal

You kill our civilians and expect us to believe such BS that Indian army killed 3 militants ? There is a limit of lies, but shamelessly killings women, kids and old people and declaring we killed militants just amounts to being eunuchs

No need to worry, anyone. This is regular celebratory exchange in the spirit of Eid.I am sure Indian Army will also reciprocate these festive offerings during Diwali. Also to all Muslim Members here, Eid Mubarak

yes, mostly in around the line of control there is a special regiment called the Mujahideen Regiment, but they are trained professionals and not terrorists

Arun Shourie is a perfect candidate for Finance Ministry. But he may prove to be a man with too radical ideas. Modi is doing same what he has done in Gujrat - a mix of populism and reforms. I dont think Arun Shourie would have agreed to something like Jan-Dhan yojana..

Modi is probably waiting for Maharashtra and Haryana elections to throw up leaders who can then take up posts. He is also keeping a post free for Raman Singh and Manohar parikar when the time come.

You do realize that unlike earlier times, IA has been given FULL rights to do what it takes to retaliate to any incidences.

The Political establishment will not interfere anymore. So expect more of the same.
