This can be accepted in a mythology forum; but not here.Half baked posts.Takshashila means takshak's hill.Nagraj takshak, the king of the takshak naga clan had a blood feud with pandavas, particularly arjuna who destroyed their previous lair at khandava forest, the survivors migrated and founded takshashila. The takshak clan was one of the 8 pre aryan naga clans of the subcontinent. They were called nagas as they worshipped snakes(in some places in india you still find worship of nagdev). They fought on the kaurava side in the mahabharat war without success.Takshak took his revenge by poisoning and killing arjuna's grandson parikshit.Parikshit's son kuru samrat janmejay waged a war of vengeance against the takshak nagas with heavy bloodshed and took takshashila.Later with intervention of sages there was reconciliation and peace.
The nagas were not exterminated, their descendants live on in the nagvanshis of india who are found in some rajput and jat clans. They were assimilated into larger vedic society.Until the gupta age we find mention of naga rulers and kingdoms in inscriptions.Takshak is today a gotra among the jats.Surname tokas is derived from takshak.
There are many theories for the name; but scholarly consensus generally agrees that 'Taxila' is the gradual contraction of Takṣaśilā from Sanskrit; meaning "City of Cut Stone".
