What's new

Opinion: Turkey not a regional power.

You, don't need Jordanians on board if they don't wish to. The Jordanian king has a legacy, we all know that. If OIC orders the formation of a task force then firstly Jordan will be forced to comply, if it doesn't it won't make any difference as there is going to be no ground invasion that you need Jordan for secondly they can't shut their air space for RSAF to pass onto strike Asad's forces. If they do, KSA can simply move the air fleet its going to commit to the strike package to Turkey to carry out operations from there.
Wow, we have a strategist here!
Turkey will not host our planes. Turkey selects the FSA opposition groups as she wants and kills the rest. You do not know what is going on.
They are working on the best deal they can make with Iran.

off topic, but I've been reading some stuff about a military alliance between Iraq and Iran (maliki and the mullahs).

anything in the arab press about this?

I think Davutuglu says this to the Iranian foreign minister:

We helped you a lot in UN. Now it is your turn. Our exports are dropping down. Tell Iraq to buy more. We need at least 30 Billion $ export to Iraq this year. Give us more way to the central Asia countries. We will pay you back in Syria.
Just let Assad ago and install any other puppet you wish. We will buy more gas and oil instead.

Yeah there will be military exercise on the southern border of Iraq planning to help the butcher Assad.

They didn't really help. Their support was only symbolic. A vote from Turkey is no different from a positive vote from say, Iraq. Only 5 votes matter in the UN: those of the Security Council members.
And the mullahs will NOT throw Assad under the bus under any circumstance. They will help him till the end. Assad helped Iran when all the other arabs were attacking Iran in the 80's and now the mullahs will return the favour. Plus, all this is helping them get more control. The more they help, the more control they will have if Assad stays (think about how they created Hezbollah in Leb with limited presence and how much they could have done with a lot of presence and men on the ground).

The sunni arab world hates the mullahs regardless and if they hate them even more, it makes little difference to them.

In the end, the collective airforce of the khaleeji arab countries is enough to hurt Assad. The ball has been in the saudi/UAE/Qatar/Jordan court for a long time. For whatever reason they're not picking it up to show their skills.

Syria is not Libya. It needs ground forces.

It's amusing to see Saudis are criticizing our softpower. Anyways, I have to explain it.
First of all, Turkey is not a sole Middle Eastern country. Frankly, it doesn't ME at all. You guys have oil, we want it.
And unlike KSA, Turkish decision makers need to explain their moves to public. We can't spend billions to others. And btw, Turkey needs to spend in other regions as well, we have Albania, Macedonia in Balkans, we have Azerbaijan and other CARs in Caucasus and in Central Asia. Someone must finance bases in Albania, in Macedonia etc.
As I said, comparing Turkey with KSA is really amusing, Saudis can only dream Turkish Defence Industry, Turkish Intelligence Agencies and Turkish military traditions
You did talk about what a regional power must do, are Saudi soap operas watching in Balkans, in Middle East, and in Central Asia? This is called softpower.

Saudi Tornados that went for Anatolian Eagle in Turkey never returned to KSA. They are still in Turkey. The Turkish air force can well and truly annihilate, asad's air force in less than 72 hours but the mess that comes after will be hard for Turkey to deal with alone.

Turks are reluctant to do it all alone, KSA or other arabs will not step up and Syrians will keep getting murdered. This is the future i see for Syria.

You are talking about soap operas! Many countries in the region listen to Lebanese singers and songs. Is that a soft power for Lebanon?

PAF provided, Mujahideen with CAS/CAP during soviet afghan war, around 35 Afghan or Soviet fighters were shot down on our border with Afghanistan. That gave a huge edge to the Muhajideen to re-arm and smash Soviets at will.

Similarly, No fly zone will suffice over Syria - but who bells the cat ?

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey and Jordan. Man one shot one kill. Saudi-pakistan air forces. Turkey Jordan Land forces. :flame:

Its been 18 months, thousands dead, hundreds of thousands homeless, and that mass murderer is still killing his own people at will. How much more bloodshed would be needed before Middle easterns intervene ?
