The Iranian-Turkish rivalry is as old as history. Oldest Iranian poem book is devoted to the rivalry and wars of Iran with Romans and Turks. Persian Sassanid dynasty experienced the same type of wars with Huns and Romans too. Afterwards, the Ottoman-Safavid rivalry is prominent.
Nowadays, a new Iranian-Turkish rivalry is seen in Africa, Middle East and central Asia.
Here, I want to classify the advantages and disadvantages of each side:

##Turkey Advantages:
1. A good economy based on huge foreign investments and independent of oil revenues.
2. A strategic location that connects Asia to Europe, dominating over black sea canals, can block Russia.
3. A good military especially regarding air force (phantoms, F16 and F35 to come), navy, Tanks, …
4. Water resources
5. Large population
6. Friendship with neighbors of neighbors, some Balkan countries, and US.

##Turkey disadvantages:
1. Lack of oil/gas reserves
2. Dependence on Iranian roads to access central Asia, GCC countries and Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)
3. Animosity/rivalry of almost all neighbors:
I) Historical animosity of Greece, Cypress, Armenia.
II) Animosity of Iraq, Syria and some Balkan countries
III) Rivalry with Iran, vague relations with the new Russia-backed Georgia
4. Kurdish problem

##Iran Advantages:
1. Strong alignment among Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, the so-called Shiite empire. This empire collaborates very well over or under the table, is backed by huge amount of oil and gas resources and is connected to Mediterranean Sea. It is expected to see the countries go to war for the sake of each other. They collaborate for blocking unfriendly countries regarding gas pipelines, roads, port accesses and etc. The empire has extensions in Afghanistan and Tajikistan as well.
2. A strategic location near central Asia, GGC and dominant over Hurmuz straight,
3. A good military especially regarding long range missiles, navy, drone, paramilitary, proxies, and space forces.

5. Relations with Russia and China
6. Large population

As I mentioned, I consider Iran-Turkish relationship a historic rivalry not historic animosity. Most of the achievements in this forum are Turkish or Iranian; while Arab world is asleep.
