To combat the global domination of US software companies China needs to start exporting it's own software ecosystem to the rest of the world

This is just my own opinion and not taken from any online article but I wanted to share it here.

Frankly I think not all people realize just how much Huawei has been damaged by the trade war, while Huawei the company itself is doing just fine mostly thanks to it's telecoms business and thanks to the internal Chinese market, however outside of China globaly the US has damaged Huawei's smartphone division to such a degree that the traders are absolutely reluctant to bringing any of the new Huawei phones because no one is buying it from them due to lack of pre-installed GMS, and not having google's apps is a dealbreaker for 99% of people outside China.

And while China is too big for one company's troubles to affect it however the US will definitely start targeting other Chinese companies one by one, their aim is to gradually reduce the Market share of Chinese companies by targeting one company at a time, so today its Huawei tomorrow its gonna be Meizu and so on till after some years all Chinese phone makers won't have access to Google's apps, this way while nowadays all other Chinese phone companies are increasing the total market share held by Chinese phone makers however once the US starts blocking GMS for other Chinese phone makers then you will see their market share going down to nothingness.

And the problem is the other Chinese companies and the government are not using any where near their full capabilities to address this issue, so take Baidu maps just for example, why the **** isn't Baidu maps pre-installed on Chinese phones that are shipped globaly? Just update the interface so that it supports all other languages and have it pre-installed on all Chinese phones (in addition to the existing Google maps), this way in a short period you will have hundreds of millions of people worldwide using Baidu so that in the future if the US trys to block Google's apps (in this case Google maps) in Chinese phones people outside China would already be fully accustomed and used to having Baidu maps instead of that of Google.

Another example is Bilibili (I guess the Chinese equivalent of youtube), I installed their app a while ago but it's all in Chinese! why doesn't bilibili have a separate global version of Bilibili (like what Douyin did) and have it pre-installed on all Chinese phones, if they did that I'm %100 sure it would be as much of a success (or more) as is Tiktok this way foreign costumers would be used to having the Chinese youtube that is bilibili.

Ofcourse it's not just bilibili and baidu , I believe that China needs to export the entire ecosystem of sofware that they currently have in China to the rest of the world, Chinese software companies need to start going global instead of remaining sheltered in China because they need to start getting foreigners addicted to the Chinese software ecosystem the same way people nowadays are addicted to that of America.
This way if America threatens to ban American software on Chinese phones China could threaten to retaliate by banning Chinese software on American phones. And at that point if a complete software decoupling happens between China and the US China's share in the global market won't be affected.

It is the quality and the trust you can actually "export". The software ecosystem in the rest of the world is largely free. I am not sure about the quality of Chinese software. But trust seems to be non-existence in the rest of the world. So, it is going to be a tough "sell".

Then let's start with an entirely new, Chinese operating system and its software ecosystem. Huawei promised a new OS called HarmonyOS some months ago but which simply seems to be a variant of Android.

So start with the OS.

The software ecosystem in the rest of the world is largely free.

Yes, largely free software. And open source whether software or hardware, is the way.

Developing new software-ecosystem is easy. Changing people's habits is difficult. American companies dominate software-ecosystem because internet revolution originated from US. They deserve the dominantion. It's very hard or impossible to change the game rules now. China can not change the current game rules but can change the game itself. What China needs is to be the leader of next generation information revolution. Huawei's universal OS that supports all devices/car is a good try.

@ OP. Lol what for? My dad has a Huawei P30 Pro for a few years now. He's switching to prepaid instead of monthly subscription fee. Know what he used to use the phone for? Order pizza and Chinese takeout.

So what if Huawei loses its mobile division?

Where USA will be fooked will be in the software ecosystems that ppl use to actually do useful work (dekstops, laptops, and to a lesser extend tablets). It's already happening. Becoz of Unity OS (aka Deepin Linux) Microsoft is already fooked. When Harmony OS arrives on desktops, laptops, and workhorse tablets, Microsoft (and co) will be doubly fooked.

A Chinese ecosystem would not just launch in a contested market. It has the extra hurdle to be accompanied by really dirty playing state run disiformation campaigns on every step and efforts to undermine and block its chances, will be widely measured with completely different sticks, to prevent it competing with products that launched without some foreign ****** rouge regimes terrorizing companies down to employess for making too good products they cant otherwise compete .

Like how the US regime drummed up its propaganda mouthpieces and shills to spam lies on all networks and affialate channels that Huaweis wave breaking HarmonyOS would be just an Android fork just to descredit and play into the Chinese knockoff narratives, with excuses are dumb as Harmony reusing Huaweis own user interface solution that isnt part of Android and grasping for straws with open source packages and generic package structures custom to Huawei developers or holding the built on top compatibility to allow a smooth transition of users from Android to Harmony against Harmony being different or calling the "Android fork/clone" simultaneously an iOS clone when pandering to Apple communities. Of course to slander Chinese product with disinformation in general but also specifically deny and hide and at least downplay the novel interconnectivity coming with HOS that could actually make people consider to pick a Huawei device over another especially when they have an existing device. And of course with not a single "correction" as demanded by their "ethical" and "journalistic codes" they like to talk about but dont actualy give one **** about, for talking utter BS after being called out on it.

Actually, such disinformation isn't a big deal. For any new technology, the real influencers are not regular consumers who could fall to disinformation easily. Instead, they are likely tech savvy folks who don't like to be told as to what to believe. Pleasing those folks can help you gain tremendous soft power. Unfortunately, though I am a big fan of Huawei, its recent practice pissed me off. I bought one of its smartphones because it could be unlocked by requesting an unlock code and flashed with different OS. When I finally got around to do it, I was surprised that they had disabled this capability by refusing to provide the unlock code. That is not cool.

Bilibili doesn't run ads in video content like YouTube does, which means it's a money losing business. Expand globally it would lose more.

What's the popularity of Chinese apps outside like WeChat, Baidu, etc outside of China (including non-Chinese users)? China is big enough to sustain these apps but they are not universal.

Also, Chinese apps are so particular to China that no Western app can match them, like WeChat. In fact, Western apps (those not banned) have a hard time getting traction.

Perhaps Chinese apps can get more traction if they set up development centers outside of China and draw western programmers. It's a thought.

In the case of WeChat, any western apps that would get any traction would be banned. Only those that won't get any traction are probably excused.

For people who actually write those softwares, yeah. For those who use them, that is a different story.

People need government they can trust. This is much more important than software.

The world is full of governments that cannot be trusted. Instead of serving the people, the governments of most countries are filled with corruption, degradation, and deception.
A good software, a good government, I would choose a good government.
