I have many wazir and mehsud friends, all are extreme anti-pakistanis. Their families and clans have suffered from both talibans and military operations. I would say Pakistan has lost this territory.
Pakistan has used these tribals as cannon fodders at many places, iss liye ye wakt tu aana hi ta.

i think i should give you the names of some Mehsuds and Wazirs who are in the Army.

May be you can better define cannon fodder then..!!

Easy boy, they are living in waziristan for thousands of years, if they dont love pakistan then it doesnt mean that thier land doesnt belong to them and they have to leave the area. Through out history numerous empires and countries in this region might have told these brave people to leave the region, but the empires became part of history yet the tribals are still there. tell any wazir on face to leave waziristan and you will get an awesome reply.

but setting all jokes aside, I do hope that there is MAJOR campaign to uplift the backwards areas. Pakistani useless politicians have made no attempt to even acknowledge the people of S. Waziristan; none of the ministers even visit those areas.

Taliban militants regrouping in Pakistan's tribal area

Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain of Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said on Sunday that Taliban militants are regrouping in the tribal area of the country.

"Everyone is aware that Talibans are regrouping in tribal regions. We are not oblivious of the threat," said Hussain at a press conference held in Peshawar, capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the government is determined to deal with the militants.

The minister's statement came a day after militants killed an army officer and two other soldiers in a bomb attack in South Waziristan tribal region, where the army had declared victory earlier this year.

The attack at Badar area of South Waziristan has raised concerns that the militants have returned to some areas in South Waziristan. The area is the hometown of Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsood.

Taliban militants had fled South Waziristan after thousands of security forces launched major air and ground offensives in October last year.

Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq said on Friday that the militants have returned to South Waziristan to resume attacks on the forces. He also appointed Ihsanullah Ihsan as the deputy spokesman.

Taliban has announced return at a time when the government has initiated registration for the repatriation of thousands of people displaced as the result of fighting. The militants had asked displaced tribesmen not to return in view of their possible attacks on the forces.

The security forces have set up bunkers in the areas of Mehsood tribe to maintain security.

Analysts say that the military operation has not destroyed the Taliban command system and their major commanders are alive and they had left the area as war tactics.

The Pakistani army has claimed to have killed up to 1,000 militants in South Waziristan, but the claim could not be independently verified.

South Waziristan cleared of militants, says army

PESHAWAR: South Waziristan has been cleared of militants and there are no more insurgent hideouts in the tribal region, Major-General Nawaz Khan, the operations commander in the region, said.

Khan said after the completion of Rah-i-Nijat, the political administration of the region was very responsibly fulfilling its duties.

Briefing the media at the Rata Kulachi Stadium in Dera Ismail Khan, he said foreign forces were involved in the situation that developed in the region and that the Pakistan army has also arrested foreigners and seized foreign arms and ammunition.

Major-General Khan was surveying activities at a registration camp for the internally displaced and said the process of the IDPs repatriation was in progress. He further said that the repatriated IDPs will be provided with all sorts of facilities.

He further said that development and rebuilding of infrastructure was underway in South Waziristan. Schools and roads were also being built in the region, he said. — DawnNews

Majority of reconstructive work complete in S Waziristan: Officials

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Army has expedited the reconstruction process in South Waziristan saying almost 70 per cent of work has been completed in the region.

Two 130 kilometre long roads are being constructed by Pakistan Army Engineers in the agency. One from Jandola Godkai and Spinkai Raghzai to Makeen for the Mehsud tribe, and up to Wana to facilitate the Wazir tribe.A Pakistan Army spokesman told journalists that the return of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) will start as soon as their registration process concludes.

Work is being conducted on an emergency basis for the construction of schools, establishment of health departments and the supply of drinking water.

The Pakistan Army had recently announces that the internally displaced people will be returning soon to their homes after the area was cleared of militants in Operation Rah-e-Nijat.

Situation in SWA deteriorating gradually

PESHAWAR: Situation in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) is gradually deteriorating as the political administration on Wednesday finally issued notices to the Sarkikhel sub-tribe of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe to hand over a tribesman, who allegedly rented out his house to foreign fighters, or face the consequences.

On the other hand, General Officer Commanding Kohat Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar held conclusive talks with a joint jirga of tribal elders and ulema at the Zyari Noor Army Camp in Wana and reiterated his previous directive to expel foreign militants, Punjabi Taliban and Mahsud fighters from their villages and towns.

Tribal sources told this scribe from Wana, principal town of South Waziristan, that tension in the region was mounting after the political administration issued notices to the Sarkikhel tribe, asking to hand over a tribesman, Halat Khan, or raise tribal lashkar against the unwanted non-local fighters in their area.

The political administration informed tribal jirga of the Sarkikhel tribe that those killed in a drone attack on June 29 at Ghwakhwa village near Wana included foreigners and Punjabi Taliban. The house where the militants were staying was owned by a local tribesman, Halat Khan Wazir, the officials told the Sarkikhel tribal elders. They said Halat Khan belonged to Sarkikhel tribe and had rented out his house to the foreign militants and Punjabi Taliban.

The authorities directed the Sarkikhel elders to hand over Halat Khan to the government within three days or raise tribal lashkar and take action against the tribesman under tribal customs and traditions.

The tribal elders were also directed to take action against the foreigners, Punjabi Taliban and Mahsud militants hiding in the area. In case of their failure, the authorities warned the Sarkikhel tribe of action under the draconian Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), which authorises the administration to suspend perks and privileges to the concerned tribe, commandeer their vehicles, seal their markets and properties and arrest their people.

To discuss their future line of action, the Sarkikhel tribe would hold its jirga at Azam Warsak town. Meanwhile, a jirga of tribal elders and ulema held its final meeting with GOC Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar in which the top military official once again directed them to take action against foreigners, Punjabi Taliban and Mahsud militants. He told them that their area had become a sanctuary for the non-local militants and asked them to expel as these people have been posing a serious threat to security of the area.

People in Wana subdivision feared their area was once again heading towards chaos. “It’s the same situation we experienced in 2003. First we raised tribal lashkars against foreigners on government’s order and then target killing of prominent pro-government tribal started. More than 300 elders were killed and finally the government launched military operation from Azam Warsak on March 16, 2003,” a tribal elder recalled the past bad days.

Pleading anonymity, he said the people have no means to take action against militants, whether they are local or foreigners, and finally the government would use force in which innocent people would have to suffer financial and human losses.

Well it seems they had a typo error or an error to have used SWA instead of NWA.

And another thing is, they are talking about SWA areas which were not operated upon, areas which were under the Wazir tribe had no operation, only area controlled by Mehsud tribe in SWA was operated and cleared. Area around Wanna is controlled by the Wazir tribe.

2 suspects belonging to Waziristan arrested from Lahore

Intelligence Agencies have arrested from here two suspects belonging to Waziristan and shifted them to an undisclosed destination.

According to intelligence sources, intelligence agencies have arrested two suspects who were belong to Waziristan while arrest was made after monitoring their conversation through satellite phone. Both suspects Qari Obaid Ullah and Allah Yar were sharing suspicious conversation on mobile phone.

Alleged criminals have got training from Waziristan and reached Lahore by buses, both had to receive terror targets from their leaders. While law enforcement agencies have also found documents, which are indicating their targeting terror activities.

Army working towards development of S Waziristan

WANA: Pakistan Army has launched scores of developmental projects under the directives of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani in the militancy-affected South Waziristan Agency for the socio-economic uplift of the tribal people.

In addition to completing scores of multi-purposes projects in South Waziristan by Pakistan army, developmental schemes on various sectors including education, health, communication and water are underway in South Waziristan.

The ISPR on Thursday arranged a detail visit for Peshawar-based journalists who were flown to South Waziristan where they were shown and briefed about the developmental projects completed by army in the agency and ongoing multi-dimensional Gomal Zam dam.

Major Farruk Majeed, Project Officer Frontier Works Organization told journalists that work on a 15km Tank-Wana Road has been completed that would facilitate people of South Waziristan, Tank and DI Khan districts. Construction work on a 108km long Tank-Makeen Road and 101 km Tank-Wana road is also underway.

He said that work on Gomal Zam dam is also underway of which 90 per cent has been completed. The Gomal Zam Dam will boost up hydropower generation in FATA and would protect fertile land from flood and soil erosion besides converting most of barren land into canal-irrigated area that would generate employment opportunities for youth and bolstering income of poor segment of the society, Major Majeed remarked.

Journalists were also shown the under construction Government Girls Degree College Wana. Lt Col Akmal Hussain told the media that 40-explosive packed tunnels that were established by terrorists inside the college, have been cleared and its repair and maintenance work is underway and hopefully will complete by June next year, adding that this project would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs.107million. The building of the college would be earthquake proof and would be constructed on international building standards.

Malik Aman Khan and Malik Allah Yar Khan on behalf of tribal people on this occasion thanked the army chief for initiating a number of projects in South Waziristan and highly appreciated the army’s efforts for establishing the girls’ college and the roads projects, which was their decade-old demand.

They said that their girls would get quality education inside of the agency and will not go to other districts for the same. They assured full support to Pak Army in their future endeavours and vowed to fight alongside the military for the defence of the country.

The tribal people condemned US drone attacks and termed it violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. They said drone attacks are counterproductive.

This is such a cruel joke. Gomal Zam, Tank-Wana Road are old projects being carried out since the time of Z A Bhutto.

Army is working for the US for peanuts, is not able to charge the right price, and thus incapable of doing any meaningful infrastructure works in Pakistani territory that it has treated as a captured enemy territory.

If our Political and Military leadership would stop selling national interest on the cheap, Pakistan's growth rate would rival China's.
