ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday announced the much-awaited National Security Policy in the National Assembly and presented its draft before lawmakers in lower house of the Parliament for approval, SAMAA reported.
“It’s a serious and sensitive matter, this is not PML-N’s security policy, but this is the nation’s security policy, it has been molded into Pakistan policy,” Chaudhry said while addressing the house.
He said the document spanning over 100 pages was prepared in five months. “In its preparation, the government consulted with all stake holders including political parties, army officials and experts but it was only the MQM which provided its input through a draft,” the minister told MNAs.
He said the policy focuses five areas – confidential, strategic, military operation, dialogue – in order to ensure safety and security of citizens and establish government’s writ in the country.
On Tuesday, the federal cabinet unanimously approved the policy, and urged Taliban to renounce terror activities without pre-conditions and announce unilateral ceasefire. In the meeting, they Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his resolve to establish government’s writ at every cost.
The premier was also present in the National Assembly session wherein the interior minister was presenting draft of the new security policy.
