Oh ajpirzada, there are so many things. I'll list a few that I can think of right now:
____________________________
1. Anti Corruption Unit

The establishment of a hard-core Anti Corruption Unit, based on hierarchy. This ACU will have access to all government and civil service departments, federal, provincial or local. It will be based on a system where the average man will lodge a complaint at the local ACU office, which will then be taken up by someone with relevant experience in that field. For example, if a policeman just asked you for a bribe, call up the local ACU law enforcement officer and lodge a complaint.

The Local ACU will be monitored, on a random or complaint based audit system, by the Provincial ACU HQ. That, in turn, will be under direct random audit review from the Federal ACU, which, in turn, will be under direct audit review of the Ministry of Interior and the Prime Minister. At the lowest level, the ACU will have the power of lodging a complaint with the local courts for corruption, and temporary/permanent dismissal of the guilty party.

Wherever possible, the process will be transparent. That is, there will be full access to the media, and information will be made available on the ACU website.

In other words, corruption will not be tolerated. The determination of guilt must be swift, but also must be beyond reasonable doubt, and the consequences must be immediate. In most cases of corruption, it's quite easy to tell what's going on. Of course, it all depends on a leadership willing to end corruption, which is highly unlikely right now. The idea is not to catch every corrupt crook, that is impossible. Its to catch a lot of them (say, 15%) and then make an example of them for the rest (85%) by terrifying them of the consequences. Make them pay back every single Paisa they've stolen from the government and the people, by liquidating their properties etc.
____________________________
2. Pakistanis 4 Pakistanis Organization

The name is self-explanatory and will consist, ideally, of Pakistani youth. It will have absolutely no political affiliations of any kind. It will promote community service and work with local NGOs. It will provide a steady stream of volunteers for various tasks, and will promote activism. It's primary purposes will be to bring awareness to the issues of the poor and middle classes of Pakistan, primarily those that are neglected. There are organizations of this type that exist in certain urban areas, but this will ideally be a uniting platform.

I hear that half of Pakistan's population is under the age of 30, I just want to harness the power of that youth. This idea isn't completely planned out yet, and has room for growth, but it's a relatively newer idea (unlike the ACU above, which I've been thinking about for almost a year now).
____________________________
3. Economic Assistance for Education

I, too, just like ajpirzada, would like to see high literacy rate amongst the Pakistanis. This idea I have borrowed from the Indian Congress Party, who have implemented in certain extremely poor areas of India. The average child laborer in Pakistan does not go to school because he/she is a source of income for the family, without whom the family can't survive. The Economic Assistance for Education program will ensure that families who willingly send their children to school receive economic assistance from the government, both monetary and otherwise. That is, if a family chooses to send a child to school, then the family will be re-reimbursed the income they would have otherwise lost. As far as I know, there are no parents that do not want their children to receive education (except for a few weirdos), but they can't because of economic pressures. If the child can get an education and the family can still put food on the table, then there will be no reason not to send your children to school (even girls, as girls-only schools are not uncommon in Pakistan).
____________________________
4. Overhaul of Government Schools

Government schooling until a certain grade (say, Grade 5) must be provided for free. The rich families in Pakistan don't send their children to govt. schools, it's generally the middle class and lower. By allowing their children to get free, good quality education at least until grade 5 will create a relatively literate work-force. This will not guarantee that they will all continue to become Engineers or Doctors, all it will guarantee is that these children will have the opportunity to do what they want.

In addition to free education, the quality of education itself will have to be improved. There will be a centralized skeleton curriculum that will be set by the Federal government, but the provincial governments will have control of most of what they would like to teach. Books shall be made available for free as much as possible, but if they can't be, then they should at least be made available cheaply. You don't need a Text Book written by some European Physicist to teach grade 9 kids Newton's Three Laws. These books can be published by the government themselves.

Centers for Teaching Excellence must also be established. Every teacher should be required to take specific courses from this Center to make sure that the kids are taught things of value. Teacher's salaries will also be increased, based on experience and report card. All govt. schools will be required to perform random audits of teachers and courses and to present each teacher with a report card at the end of each term, in addition to students' anonymous comments. These reports must also be forwarded to the local Center for Teaching Excellence so that they may review and recommend courses to teachers.

All in all, if this system were to be established today, we would see it's benefits as early as late 2010. Like I said, no parents would mind their children receiving good quality education, from teachers who are professional and well equipped.

Seriously, I could go all day. But, I have work tomorrow morning, and I still haven't prayed Isha. So, I'll fill the rest in some other day.

Well, bro, Wishing you best of luck and may you get successful. Indeed a good literacy rate is the requirement of time. To my thinking, 80% of our problems can get solved by educating more and more people.

May God help you in fulfilling your dream.

I agree. But when you are keen to do so it isn't a problem. For educating more and more people you need more and more institutions. And to work in these institutions you need more and more teachers. These teachers will be the ones who are educated of course.

This is the only example of teaching but there are many more fields realted directly or indirectly to the literacy. I know a hundred jobs being again and againg re-advertised because the person with required qualification is not found. In Government Sector mostly.

Literacy can open up new doors to employment.

here is a link for you that will help you in achieving (atleast participating) in your dream.

*Namal College, Pakistan - an associate college of University of Bradford

IMRAN KHAN'S NAMAL COLLEGE(UNIVERSITY OF BRADFORD UK) MIANWALI, PAKISTAN*
Namal College is built on land generously donated by the people of Mianwali
District. Located a short distance outside the city of Mianwali on the main
Highway, the college is set on a gentle slope of a hill in beautiful
countryside on the edge of Namal lake. Phase 1 of the project and the first
of a complex of buildings has now been completed. The two storey building,
covering an area of 60,000 sq. ft. houses the college administration, Maths
and Computing laboratories and an English Language Centre. Phase II of the
construction programme will begin shortly and include Staff and Student
Accommodation premises and research laboratories.

*Namal College is an Associate College of the University of Bradford, one of
the leading Universities in United Kingdom*. It specialises in the Technical
and Engineering disciplines, and has a history of developing and delivering
high quality and demand driven degree programmes. Bradford has extensive
experience in setting up vocational training professional courses in
different parts of the World. Bradford University will work closely with
Namal College in designing the courses and curriculum, in ensuring Quality
Assurance, training and development for the Faculty and advising on matters
related to academic administration. Imran Khan is the Chancellor of the
University of Bradford. For further information about the University of
Bradford please visit the University website: The University of Bradford

now imran khans plan is to make it an education city like oxford and cambridge. there was one interview of imran khan on you tube, if i can find it i will post it for reference. anyhow, in my opinion, namal college and affiliation with bradford university is itself a marvelous achievement and moreover, only from donations. pakistani youth can now get a good quality education and degrees by bradford university UK from this college. here is the part of message posted by imran khan (as chancellor) on the website of this college:

When I was campaigning during the 2002 elections in Mianwali I was appalled at the high level of unemployment amongst the youth. Hence I resolved to set up a technical college so that this youth could become employable. However two things made me change my mind and instead I decided to build a World class University. First was the most beautiful location of the site (donated free of cost by the villagers) which made me dream of a knowledge city like Oxford. Secondly when I was offered the Chancellorship of Bradford University I realized that I had access to an enormous academic technical back up to pursue this dream.I am under no illusion that it is a huge challenge to set up a centre of excellence in such remote though beautiful location.First will be the huge funds needed to make it a University of International standard.

Exactly. But again what do you think can educated people do what insurgents are doing? The main reason is lack of education? Both religious and modern. They believe in the words of those they think educated. If they had been themselves educated they might have not been doing it.

But since due to this former negligance we are fighting to get our peace back and on the other side we should immediately commence projects to increase literacy rate.

Secondly, education just not means to get a got office job. An educated person can be a brilliant farmer. We can generate more yield from farms if compared with those of illetrate people. To modernize our system of Agriculture we need to get our farmers educated.

Industries need skilled and technical workers in bulks and yes again Industrial advancement is necessary. But Educating people should be the primary objective.

Gotta agree with this. This is a very noble idea, which Pakistan really needs. That would really help alleviate many problems which Pakistanis face today, not to mention fundamentalism breeding in the border regions due to unregulated and illicitly funded religious 'schools'.

Apart from this one important step which Pakistan needs is land reforms, on the lines which was initiated in India by Nehru. Take out those ultra rich, tax evading landlords and distribute lands and make people pay taxes!

Youth's should be engaged, not merely by education but with jobs.yes u can save few suicide bombers by education.but without economic uplift social unrest is going to happen..."A idle mind is devils work place"
More balanced development, the local people should be preffered always in development activities..this is whatz hampering development in Gwader port & in in few pockets in INDIA(Naxalist movement).allegations of local resources being plundered by outsiders.
ANYWAY the starting point is always basic education.

Revamping The Education System

In my opinion the root cause for all the problems faced by Pakistan today are because of the three parallel education systems in the country i.e Matric system in Govt schools, Cambridge O/A levels in Private schools and Islamic education system in Madaris.
Due to these parallel education systems running we create different classes in the society which further divide the nation.
There should be one syllabus for all the schools.
Free and Quality education should be made mandatory for the all citizens of Pakistan.
The children of a farmer and Industrialist should go to the same school.

well ppl with high quality education will find their way.
