I cannot post there, so I will mention a point here - the situation described in the OP of that thread shows the long-term advantages of India's non-aligned policy. With India increasingly economically relevant, and having simultaneous good relations will all major players, Pakistan finds itself in a quandary.
Another point is about the long term historical perspective. We (meaning us South Asians) were, for better or for worse, subjected to invasions by Islamic hordes, who, by means fair and foul, did succeed in converting some of us to their religion. Not all the converts felt the need to create a separate political identity, but some did, and with colonialist support, established their own political entity. The question is, can a way be found to lessen the divide among these peoples, who historically were part of the same civilization? [A politically incorrect way of framing the issue - and, one suspects, it may be such incorrectness which precludes my participation in that discussion.] If the answer is yes, then Pakistan would not have any need to look for distant allies, and Pakistan's predicament would disappear.
