It will be interesting to see whether BD gets another surge of the virus as the omicron variant is more infectious than Indian Delta.

As we can see current detected infections are a fraction of what they were at the height of the Indian Delta surge in mid-August.

we are seeing an exponential growth in cases; it has broken through here. However, if you are vaccinated, the symptoms are manageable.

What will be interesting is how much the virus surges and for how long.

BD is at "herd immunity" with Indian Delta variant but omicron is thought to be twice as infectious.

As for vaccination, 25% of BD's population is double jabbed with AstraZeneca/Moderna/Sinopharm and Moderna. These include those most at risk from severe disease and likely to need hospitalisation.

Is it true that in S Africa the young and healthy are only getting mild symptons as if that is the case, BD should fare
quite well as the variant makes its way through the population?

PS - Is S Africa mainly using the J&J vaccine?

We are using J&J primarily with pfizer for 60+.

People who claim natural immunity is better than vaccination can now see their theory being tested in reality.

Actually it is too early to be seen; those who are getting 'mild' are still getting sick enough to be home. Fortunately serious population intake of pfizer has been good. Our stupid govt needed to take it to the places where this is needed.

Let us hope that the young and healthy can recover at home as otherwise there will be a big problem in many countries with this variant.

our biggest issue was these stupid evalengicals... these nigerians dogs are promoting bullshit; we had one lunatic. We went and gave him a good drubbing with the police to shutup or get locked up.

Guess what... we found that mofo had vaccinated himself but tells congrugation not to get vaccinated. My friend who is the chief of this area too that and showed the local community the mockery of these dogs. from then on we got people coming in wanting to get the vaccine.

yes, my son in law is ok now; but he was pretty sick last week.

Hopefully it turns out to be a less lethal strain.

It's not people. It's backed by research but having a vaccine won't hurt as vaccine will provide additional protection. Especially the inactivated ones. I think they will fare better against the variants. T cell memory will come in handy too.

we hope so. what worries me most is the hording of vaccines by the rich countries.

But I have heard that South Africa delayed orders because people didn't want vaccines. Can't help that.

It is correct; but there are 2 issues not just one.
1. These evalengists are the dogs spreading this misinformation via whatsapp and congrugation; they need to be neutered. Already, we exposed a nigerian quasi minister. We are trying to go community to community ensuring they are able to keep aside the misinformation. We have already seen so much deaths here, it is not difficult to lay the case.
2. Rural aspect. The govt has done a piss poor job of going to the rural segment. Casing point; how do you expect people to go to urban settings. Hence, at grassroot levels, in my community, the churches, and mosque in our region arranged for a touring bus which has been able to get to several thousand people and counting.
