You seem to have trouble understanding the role of fighter jets in those kinds of scenarios. The topic here is about '9/11-type attacks'. Countries around the world maintain vigilance against terrorism without making a song and dance about it in the media.

As I wrote numerous times already, countries do the needful silently. The US is prepared for 9/11-type attacks, but they don't go around making silly publicity stunts about SAMs on rooftops.

This all-too-public hype about SAMs and fighter jets is designed to boost interest in the Olympics but I don't expect some people here to understand simple marketing concepts.

P.S. I will give a simple analogy: why do you suppose rich Hollywood actresses get 'caught' shoplifting?

US does not need SAM's on rooftops in New York because it has deployed Submarines near New York to shoot down any plane which is threatening the city.

Since You can't deploy Submarines in the Thames River and a Terrorist attacked occurred in London carried out by Islamic Terrorists on July 7, 2005 and London has thousands of wannabe jihadists who look at the London Olympics as a golden opportunity to launch a terrorist strike, so announcing SAM's on rooftops is just as a big deterrant as having SAM's on rooftops.

A terrorist will think twice about hijacking a plane and flying it into a stadium when a SAM will shoot it down before it gets to its target.

Where does it say we are doing something new?
It's just a report on the security situation, I am sure there were such reports for Beijing, Athens etc.
Hype? So you think people will be coming from across the world not for the athletics but for the missiles?
It will have zero impact on people wanting to watch.
It's the Olympics it does not need any hype.
