Oliver Hazard Class Frigate Acquisition by Pakistan

.
apparantly there is some issue on this transfer.

See previous post
Having failed to produce timely defense spending bills or avoid a chaotic end to a yearlong march toward sequestration, the recently deceased 112th Congress also failed to approve a normally prosaic measure allowing the transfers of old Navy ships to friendly navies.

31 August 2010: Mayport, Fla. - Cmdr. Paul D. Young, commanding officer of the guided-missile frigate USS McInerney (FFG 8), presents a certificate of transfer to Pakistan navy Capt. Naveed Ashraf during the ship's decommissioning ceremony at Naval Station Mayport. McInerney was commissioned into the Pakistan navy as PNS Alamgir (F 260).

Just 1 ship unfortunately we had been expecting 6 ships
Supply has been an issue

I think due to delayed supply the credibility has gone down for US suppliers , unfortunate
But it just meant other countries have benefited

Oliver Hazard Class Frigate Acquisition program was really good for PN, but unfortunately like past experience it was not completed sadly which hitted our navy badly

Due to bad politics of Zardari and Haqqani

Nothing to do with Haqqani and Zardari we just were not given the OHP our navy waited like full 10-15 years for this carrot and in end all we got was 1 ship and that too was modified (de-armed) and no SAM system was given for it.

Their is no other way to look at it

To claim we might get 2-3 more is ridiculous at this point

As i have said before, had their been a will it could and still can be done. Australia has been looking for a buyer for the last 3 Adelaide ships. If PN wanted it could probably get them on the cheap and these are all armed with the Mk13 arm and 8 cell Mk41 VLS. If PN acquired them they could use the mk 13 for Harpoons and they could go for CAMM to arm the mk41 (32 SAMs of 60km range). Then get alamghir an 8 cell Sylver A50 with CAMM and put all 4 ships through a genesis upgrade and you have 4 ships with very strong ASW, and ASHW, and reasonable AAW capabilities wbich are cheap and would be able to serve at least another 15 years. They would carry as much fire power as the Type 054A. But the will is not there. The PN (probably rightly) wants new build ships. These would be a stop gap (albeit a potent one).

What type of Air Defense system is operational with PNS Alamgir?

. .
Why is that we are always lacking the will to take concrete steps when it comes to acquiring the new or used equipment? Regardless of the service in question , their top brass acts in the similar manner. The lack of vision and long term planning is sorely lacking in all of the services.

Just Phalanx CIWS.

I don't think for a single ship PN will embark on any kind of upgrade program specially given in that acquiring such a upgrade from US will be difficult in every possible way.

So technically Alamgir will remain a ASuW/ASW asset which either has to operate in pair with another ship with better Air Defence(Type 54A/P or MILGEM or even F22P). Or it will operate in low-threat region where PAF fighters can provide air cover in case of need. But as far as I have read it has good ASW capabilities.
