Olive plantation Pakistan. Farmers support the cause.

Pakistan is importing $2.710 billion worth of cooking oil raw material every year. This could be ended in just 3 years and this import bill will increase as our population is increasing.

sir issue is not only farmers or govt issue is industrilist for importing is easier then going through hassel of teaching farmers how to grow and making sure they get good quality produce.

azad Kashmir, ratta it is near dadyal town. water is hard to get we have those roof top water wells powered by pump but i am told its not enuff for crops and if i do that it will dry up? i am told. Getting expertise is hard because Pakistanis are people of jealousy and fraud.

You can farm it very easily there it is the perfect area. I have visited dhodyal many time.

but how will small farmer survive without any income for 4-5 years? and are you planning expand your olive plantation? and where did you sell your harvest? why not look into small extractor low cost but high yeilding? you can promote olive farming in your area buy produce from farms and make oil and sell with your brand i know esier esier said then done but i am 100% sure youll make crazy money! but ull need to invest in marketing.

The average farmer has no idea about this, or how to get olives or olive oil to market. Our farming sector is not industrialised on the whole.

in Pakistan growing might not be a big issue but what growers need in supporting industry that will buy their produce we dont have such industry in Pakistan.

In agriculture you have to teach the farmers and it takes 3 to 5 years for the plants to start giving income. No farmer employs land this long. Only large farmers who can wait on the income of few acers for 3 years can do it. This is the biggest problem. The best region is potwar for this but could also be done in rest of Punjab.

For those farmer friends who don't want to commit agricultural land to this please cultivate it on the boundaries and water channels of the fields.

3-5 years wait? Then potohar is best region because there isn't much agricultural land where wheat is grown. There is also large areas in thal and bahawalpur but not sure how much water is needed for olive plants. There is so much potential, no doubt.

Anyway I would advice punjab government to extend free olive plantantion drive, it can convert pothwar in to oil food basket of Pakistan like central punjab is for wheat.

Olive oil is very expensive and healthy too. Pakistan have huge land and human force, but everything is imported, that is shameful and has to stop.

I have resources to expand if it is successful in my area. I am not going to employ my fields but instead use field divides to plant olives. I planted 50 plants 30 of them survived with out much care. Now it all depends on harvest.
Regarding market there are many buyers in Pakistan.

I heard there was some italians saying Pakistan can grow more Olives than rest combined due to having the perfect region and weather for olives.

Pakistan has wild olive forest in kpk that can be converted via grafting to regular olive ..
