June 16, 2019. Mark the date. Two years after clashing in the Champions Trophy final, India and Pakistan will meet at Old Trafford in the marquee contest of the 2019 World Cup. The tournament returns to the format used in 1992: all 10 teams play each other in the league stage with four of them progressing to the knockouts.

England will meet South Africa to unveil the most prestigious event in cricket at The Oval on May 30. The tournament will be played at 11 venues across England and Wales with Lord's hosting its fifth World Cup final on July 14.

Even though the World Cup will be played during the first half of the English summer, the ICC has insured the knockout matches - both semi-finals and the final - by having reserve days for the three games. Old Trafford will host the first semi-final (No. 1 v No. 4) on July 9 with the action shifting to Edgbaston two days later for the other semi between the second and third-placed teams on the league table.

The eleven venues that will host the tournament are Lord's, the Oval, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, Headingley, Old Trafford, Taunton, Bristol, Chester-le-Street, Southampton and Cardiff.

Defending champions Australia will play qualifiers Afghanistan in Bristol on June 2 under lights. That match is one of seven day-night contests scheduled for the tournament, including the June 29 clash between 2015 finalists Australia and New Zealand at Lord's. In all, the tournament comprises 48 matches to be played across 46 days.

The India-Pakistan contest, at the same venue that hosted their super six clash in the 1999 edition of the tournament, is expected to once again attract record eyeballs, as was the case during both their meetings during last year's Champions Trophy.

By the time India play their first match of the tournament - against South Africa on June 5, in Southampton - some of the other teams will already have played two matches. This is the result of a request from the BCCI, who wanted India's first match pushed back to comply with the Lodha Committee's recommendation that there needed to be a 15-day window between the IPL and India's participation in any international series or tournament. Next year's IPL is scheduled to take place between March 29 and May 19. According to the first draft of the schedule, India were supposed to play in the first few days of the tournament, but the ICC accepted the BCCI's request and pushed back the date of their first match.

The return to the 1992 format, and the schedule, were approved by the ICC' chief executives committee (CEC) during the ICC's quarterly meetings on Monday and Tuesday. The ICC Board, which meets on Thursday, is yet to ratify the CEC's decisions.

Along with hosts England, seven other countries - Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka - secured a direct entry to the World Cup last September. In March, Afghanistan and West Indies booked the final two slots after finishing as the top two teams in the World Cup Qualifier.

Key fixtures
England v South Africa (opening match) - May 30, The Oval; India v Pakistan - June 16, Old Trafford; England v Australia - June 19, Lord's; Australia v New Zealand - June 29, Lord's; Semi-final 1 - July 9, Old Trafford; Semi-final 2 - July 11, Edgbaston; Final - July 14, Lord's

This is by far the most exciting world cup format because we get to play against each and every team. At the moment, India, Australia, England and New Zealand are looking like top 4 teams to qualify for semis, on paper. England will be favourites with familiar conditions and strong all rounders like Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes in their team. Australia despite having an average team currently are better than bottom 6 teams. India has a huge middle order problem and desperately need a player who can accelerate innings between 30-50 overs, probably Raina. Just like India South Africa is also in a huge middle order crisis and adding to that they don't have a good all rounder either. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a lot of untested new players in team so can't judge them right now. Afghanistan have a strong bowling lineup but don't think their batsmen will be able to back them up. And Bangladesh is well, Bangladesh. Next 12 months will decide the fate of teams, specially for South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as these teams are not settled yet. India is too much reliant on spin bowling so hopefully there will be no rain and hopefully there will be no top order collapse in crucial games either, other than that I think India have high chances of reaching finals.

Games I will be looking forward to -

Indian fans better not provoke the Pakistani fans as they did in last years final where a group of Indians attacked Pakistani fans celebrating the win. The north of England is heavily populated with Pakistanis and if something was to ignite Indian fans would face dire consequences. Indians have a habit of using vile racist abuse and the Pak youth wil not tolerate such behaviour.

Bro no one attacked the Pak fans let alone the Indians, it’s a death wish....Every video shows just friendly banter or some shouting on the street.
You’re also right about the guys up North, the game will be literally played in little Pakistan lol.

There's a YouTube video of Indian fans swearing and abusing Pakistanis fans. One Indian fan even stuck a Pakistani fan in the face. Totally uncalled for. Banter is apart of every game the Indians cannot take the banter then resort to insults and abuse.

Yes it’s easy to swear behind police lines, which they always look for....
The kid was hit in the back and then started throwing punches into a group of Indians who ran away and he was the only one dragged back by the police lol.

Here’s some more;

4 Indians trying to control an irate Pakistani who had just beaten up an Indian fan and took his bat.

That was a cowardly attack. The indian had around 20 to 30 indians behind him and he sucker punched a lone Pakistani fan in the back of the head. The punch from the indian however had 0 effect on the Pakistani..............the Pakistani guy didn't even buckle and lucky for the indian, the police intervened and seperated them.....

The video WAZ posted above shows all of this.

Did you notice how much power and effort that indian tried to put into sucker punching the Pakistani guy in the back of the head yet it had 0 effect on the Pakistani. He didn't even buckle or anything...........lol......power of a little girl..........

You mean they peeled the Pakistani away in a choke hold when he started to lay into them. The guy who hit him ran away and then got slapped away by another Pakistani at 0.12 seconds lol. He's not even in camera view as he's so scared....

Pathetic as they come, he didn't even stand his ground when the retaliation came and ran for his life as did his mates.

I just think people should calm the hell down.

Now I have to admit our people are some of the most craziest when it comes to simple rubbish like a cricket game. I've been there when our men have been baying for blood, thinking it's some kind of war and literally having to be watched over by the cops inches from their faces. I could go on and write about other things I saw but it would be too embarrassing, numerous times I have had to hold our young men back before they commit acts of violence over a bloody game.

In recent times all there is and I refer back to my original post is friendly banter and a laugh.

It's better to see this. It's a game and sport, just calm down.

1 Pakistani = 10 Indians still at play amongst Cricket hooligans.

On a more serious note, hoping for a ENG v IND final at Lord's. Also hoping ENG get steamrolled tomorrow at Lord's in the ENG v IND T20I series.

My list of team preferences:

1. IND
2. SL
3. PAK
4. ENG

AUS & BAN always at the bottom due to their lack of sportsmanship.

I smell a third WC for IND as long as the bowlers perform and top batting order doesn't get over-zealous as Dhawan has been doing since IND v IRE T20I. :bunny:

Such an assault would not be a one off occasion the end of such scuffle. Locals would hunt down the individual and northern style 'jump him'. I remember a decade a go Pak played India in the midlands and Pak won the match. A group of Sikh youth droe around and spotted and elderly Pakistani lady and shouted horrible abuse towards her in Punjabi. The lady would have been considered as anyones grandmother. Such vile incidents will only lead to further community tensions. A friend of mine at the time witnessed this and told about this incident.

Although I don't celebrate the genocide or massacre of any nation or religious group of people somehow I still feel the violence of partition could happen again but on a huge catastrophic scale. This is why Pakistan army should create a 'citizen defence force' so border villagers could defend their families incase of war. Yes that's the job of the army but during war time it's every man for himself. We already have dozens of armed villages but they need to be organised into a structured defence force free from linguistic, cultural and tribal/ clan loyalties. @PAKISTANFOREVER

I tried to buy tickets but they were £70 each for the cheapest stand. My name didn't get drawn in the family ballot as well...

The match was happening in London and cricket hooligans were fighting in Manchester... That is what we call "Vele".
