The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for an immediate cessation of Indian oppression and atrocities in occupied Kashmir which has so far resulted in the deaths of over 100 people.

OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani expressed deep concern over the grave situation in the disputed Himalayan valley while chairing a meeting of OIC contact group on Kashmir on the sidelines of the 71stsession of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to Radio Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in his statement said that the Indian brutalities in the disputed Kashmir region exposed its most horrendous face in the wake of cold-blooded murder of the Kashmiri youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani. “Over 100 innocent civilians have lost their lives, while more than 8,000 are injured due to use of pallet guns and brute force by occupation authorities.”

Foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Turkey also expressed grave concern at the serious human rights violations in held Kashmir.

The development comes a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged powerful world leaders to call upon the Indian government to immediately stop bloodshed in the occupied Kashmir and implement relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In a letter written to heads of government/state of permanent members of the UNSC (China, France, Russian, UK and US), the premier highlighted the violations of international human rights and humanitarian laws in the occupied territory.

The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to peacefully resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council.

Held Kashmir has been in the grip of widespread protests against Indian rule for more than two months, sparked by the killing of a popular rebel leader in a gun battle with soldiers on July 8.

I highly doubt it. The OIC is an ineffective organization. Just ask the Palestinians. The same OIC that made this statement on Kashmir has members who are cutting deals with India.
