English will win by a big margin if we consider whole world.
Sure it will bahi jannn,
the talk was about "replacing English" so i applied the same rule that "selected" English in the first place and based on that i made the statement about Spanish and French!
I hope ab kuch samj aaya ho ga janab ko!
:)

Its for Europe not around the world. So German will apply and it will be more appropriate. :D Merkel is now the rule maker in Europe anyway, we leaving will make her even more dominant, not they want to be, but they will by default.
Yea by that logic German will cover more countries in EU. :)

.
It's a reasonable idea if british leave there will be no english speaking country in EU so why bother to translate documents to english and waist money ...
Ireland is English speaking country...

. . . .
I dont think it would be end of world;p But anyway im only talking about offical EU documents no need to waste money if no one uses english in EU...

As I said before, our language helped shape the modern world as we know it today, it also helped make the world smaller by bringing different people from different countries together and facilitating communication. The hell, without our language none of us will even be on this site in the first place, think about that. many leaders in Europe and the world when they meet each other what language you think they use if they don't want to use a translator? Lol im not even talking about global business /trade transactions between countries.
So as you can see we helped make the world a better place. :) :meeting:

Keep fuming with anger, it only makes this even more funny. Lool
By the way we also contributed alot to the E. U
Plus, please help your government and stop using our language, you could start by writing in French on here, let's see how many replies you get. Huh.. ...funny enough I do speak French fluently though, so I might be the only non-French citizen here to reply in case you use your language. :D

Moreover, almost every power from China to the U s actually wanted us to remain in the E. u but our people decided otherwise. Everything depends on us not another country. Our European friends should respect that decision instead of whinning like bitches :disagree:

Mike the thing is ....we work EN norms here....

But most of the EN norms are based on BS British Standarts.

Like BS EN 12845: Fire Sprinkler Systems
Or, BS EN 12101 Smoke and Heat Control Systems

I hope they don't go and write new standards...because you left them....it will really effect our business.

And if they write these standards in French or German....we won't be able to understand shıt........

Calls in France for English to be ditched as E.U Language.

Some in France suggest it's time to end the dominance of English as the EU's working language, now that the UK has voted to leave the union.

French purists have never taken kindly to having English thrust upon them, and some have seized upon Brexit as a chance to rid themselves of Shakespeare's language -- at least at EU headquarters.

The shock of the decision across the Channel to break with the European Union had barely begun to sink in when two French politicians demanded that Britain, before shutting the door, take its language along with it.

"The English language no longer has any legitimacy in Brussels," tweeted the far-right mayor of the southern town of Beziers, Robert Menard.

The disdain for the English language appeared to cross all political divides, as the leader of the far-left Left Party, Jean-Luc Melenchon, tweeted: "English can no-longer be the third working language of the European parliament."

Several tweeters asked Menard and Melenchon what the majority English speaking Irish would do, should English disappear.

Too bad, Menard implied, pointing out that Ireland's first language was officially Gaelic.

Though there are 24 'official languages' of the EU, the bloc's institutions use three 'working languages' to conduct everyday business - German, French and English. This is based on the fact that these are the three largest countries in the union.

Dave Keating, who runs the blog Brussels2Berlin, has written previously about the issue of whether France could oust English as an official language in the UK leaves the EU.

He says there is one big hitch.

“The 'three working language' rule has never been codified into law; so there would be no 'legal' basis on which France could challenge the predominance of English, since technically all 24 languages are equal.

And he says the French would find it difficult to oust English from its place as the main de facto EU working language.

"The forces that have made English so powerful are more cultural than governmental," writes Keating.

"Why do all these young civil servants coming from Eastern Europe speak English? Because they've been watching American television and movies their entire lives. It has little to do with the UK.

"It isn't only in Europe that English is the main means of inter-cultural communication. It is a global phenomenon. A Brexit isn't going to change that.

"So while it might seem a strange situation for a post-Brexit EU to continue using English as its main language, I can't see it going any other way.

"But, I imagine, that wouldn't stop the French from trying."

ALSO: Could France really oust English as official EU language?

Story continues below…

Nevertheless the European commissioner for Economy, Germany’s Günther Oettinger has already dismissed Melenchon’s call for English to be ditched as an official language.

Not least because of the fact that both Ireland and Malta are English speaking.

“We have a number of member states who speak English and English is the global language that we accept,” said Oettinger.

And the commissioner also suggested there may soon be another English speaking nation in the EU – Scotland.

Good laugh. seems some people still believe they can get rid of our language as the world's lingua franca/global language . It's not a coincidence. Lol. I know some despise the global dominance of Anglo Saxon on world affairs. :D

I agree they should get rid of the language, that will teach us.
No need to have the disgusting English language, the default tongue of commerce, the language they even commune in with each other, and which is spoken in many part of the world today.

It will after-all save on translation and photocopying costs.....

I sympathize with France's stand. When Britain is out why should English remain the lingua franca? Despite being a fluent speaker English is a colonial language imposed on the people. Everyone should be free to have his or her own language. This by the way also refers to French in some African countries.

pourquoi limiter à la seule Union européenne?

Je parlerai français à partir de maintenant!

Si seule la France pourrait faire des émissions de télévision mauvaises comme les Américains. Le monde mange vers le haut comme le caviar.
Ignored, due to language...

Yes, we will demand that statements are made in all EU languages - not...
English is maybe imposed on You, but not on us.
We and many other countries have selected English as the second language to teach kids.
There is no readin to change that for French or German.

In 2007, Irish became the 21st official language of the European Union.
Actual gaelic.

We are all anglo-philes. Wouldn't you want Swedish to grain precedence over English? The entire world order is made up of English worshippers. Its no different in Pakistan. People don't realize the importance of protecting national and provincial languages. It was the same outlook that led to Bengal being partitioned for us. Protecting indegenous languages should be a priority.

The Europeans already respect your decision. The EU has accepted the demand set by the British people. Now stop wasting everyone's time and make the Brexit a reality. Stop asking for preferential treatment such as free tarrif deals and other benefits available to EU members. You can't have it both ways.

Also, get off the high horse. The British people chose for Brexit. The EU reserves the right to apply any official language it deems appropriate. You cannot dictate to the EU how it ought to run its internal affairs.
