^^ I don't think it will be hard for professional soldiers like those of the IA to train on more than one type of assault (Carbine/Assualt rifle) in fact once you are proficient with an assault rifle the conversion process really isn't that hard. In fact as is members in a standard IA infantry squad cross train with secondary weapons anyway ie Machine gun-SMG, LMG- Marksmen etc

brother we dont need coversion courses....Congress has been producing assault rifles since our independence from british..SMG is issued to all cadets as soon as they step in deradun military academy...the real issue is the guns cant fire live rounds...HAL is looking into the issue and once the LMG's and SMG's are fitted with Astra rockets they will most probably consider issuing guns to cadets that are capable of firing live rounds

Well it's not very hard neither is it easy.There is a reason as to why the Heer uses G36 as standard issue rifle and the G36K and G36C as carbines.The bundesheer uses AUG A1's, AUG Carbines and AUG H-BAR and AUG LMG's based on the Steyr Aug.The British Army also uses L85 as standard issue assault rifle and L86 and L22 as LSW/DMR and carbine respectively.US Marine Corps use the M16A4's, M4's and SAM-R.Even the Indian Army wanted a Rifle, Carbine and LMG based on one single platform.So it's only logical they have a family of weapons on one single rifle not a different rifle, carbine and compact assault rifle.
