Odds stack up against India at UN vote on Sri Lanka

India must strengthen itself from within lending its ears to inner voices. Diplomacy can not be a medium of interaction with those who give nuts about it. Military intervention is not what I ask for, all we want to convey is India must listen to its people rather fearing Sri Lanka to turn against us becoming a base for External Threats. If this nation stands as one, then we might loose a neighbor to our enemies but since the inner bonding gets strong the loss will not hamper our growth.

I felt its sensible post .....We also saying same things for so long but no actions taken yet.

Death To Tamil Terrorists - Glad that Sri Lankan Army kicked butt of Indian Sponsored Tamil Terrorists!

Denial is not good. Atleast accept the faults and try to rectify them.

so then Killing civilians in the last phrase but keeping the Tamil tigers members by SL army, these two dont match each other right.

All get equal rights except the Sinhalese who get extra rights...Wasnt that very thing that actually started the civil war.

name the extra rights which Sinhalese are enjoying but other ethnics doesn't have.

Tamil areas are the Northern and Eastern provinces where are a steady Sinhalization is underway erasing any trace of Tamil identity.
History of those areas can't change to you or me. Just come and visit these areas you will know about ancient Sinhala kings and Buddhists culture, temples, archaeological sites and many more.
I think you are based on that tiger map, lol sometimes you might don't know Tamils which we called eastern Tamils are around 35-36% whole population in the Eastern province. Sinhalese & Sri lankan moors has similar percentage. Eastern province is the ancient Sinhala Kings main harvesting lands. You can still see ancient stuff there.

Dude...it was a Malayali , MGR who played a vital role in initial support to the Tigers...Malayalis are not to be blamed..its the Congress thugs who are to be blamed. I'm a Tamil myself and even the Tamil nadu congress leaders did not have the balls to speak up for the Tamils in lanka.

how can I explain this one, Don't get mad at me. I only want to show the ground level reality in here. Tamils has 3 groups mainly, Sri Lankan northern Tamils, SL eastern Tamils, and Up country Tamils/ Indian Tamils. I have Tamil neighbors around my home, according to them they're the good Tamils. They use the word "dirty.." sometimes when referring "Indian Tamils" who lives here. (Sri Lankan Citizens). The group called "Indian Tamils", always support SL government and they do have ministers in this government. Even you guys use word Tamil, there is a difference in ground level here.

(I saw Jayron has thanked your post, once he said he has relatives in Colombo too. So he should know what I have mentioned above. )

I want mention for Indian members don't mix "Tamil Tigers" terrorist group and Tamil civilians. There are dozen of Tamil parties in here if anyone want to support just support for those democratic parties. Keep that terrorists group away...!

Odds stack up against India at UN vote

NEW DELHI: India's efforts to get a UN resolution on human rights violations by Sri Lanka off the table have only a slim chance of success. The US, which sponsored the resolution, is piling up the pressure on countries to support it. Diplomats in Geneva said they were looking at a vote around March 23.

The non-aligned countries, a sizeable group in the UN, have solidly opposed the resolution and backed Sri Lanka. India that often plays the role of a leader is a member of the group. The Asian countries within the grouping will stay with Sri Lanka.

But there are reports that the Latin American countries are veering towards the American point of view. African countries have been wavering, and are susceptible to Washington's pressure. They are more vulnerable to outside persuasion, diplomatic sources feel.

If they can withstand the US pressure, the resolution has a chance of being defeated. If not, India will be called upon to vote, and though it may abstain, it will open the UPA government to criticism and retribution from its Tamil allies.

seems like you know nothing, thousands got died due to this Tamil tiger terrorists groups suicide bombs and their activities, I do have a personal suicide truck bomb experience fortunately I didn't go to school that day but bomb able to shake my home in the morning. I have to fill forms telling how many strangers at my home every month those days :(, have to attended security meetings :( have to avoid public transport locations, more check points :( when a bomb blasts dozens of calls asking "where are ya?" are you okay etc etc.................now those things has gone to history and enjoying a life in Sri Lanka!

But sometimes come to mind if India did not train that Tamil tiger terrorist group in their soil we won't face this much troubles. Lives we lost are all Sri Lankans, Hope India won't train another terrorist group against any country in our region. :)

why did the LTTE start doing this terrorism activities? Why did the Tamils (not just ltte) of SL have a grievance towards SL? PLease let me konw

.
it is long over now, just give the tamils of northern province a fair deal, let them study and do something.

LTTE was a separatist movement.
Not all the Tamils, as I mentioned earlier Tamils have different groups and 3rd group as I mentioned earlier always with SL government, lately eastern Tamils. In the previous election after the conflict current president able to secure around 36-37% percentage while 2 other main Tamil parties share the rest of votes. some political parties are using race card gain votes, recently that political party divided into 2 groups, moderate group and pro LTTE group. Need little bit time to see what happen next.

What I want is secure rights of every citizen in any area but some Tamils parties are asking special ethnic based rights coz they're majority of that area. Sri Lanka Moors who in eastern province if government implement such thing we need those rights to us too. I only see language issue apart from that all other matters are just basic issues which we can fins in developing countries.

Recently tourism industry is booming in Northern area, if this trend goes another 2-3 years it helps to understand each other more. These areas aren't open to locals due to terrorism, but now things are getting change. SL government struggling with money though they are going to make special economic zone, sport complex and Sri Lanka's 3rd International airport in that area. Ports projects are already have started.

But i heard the root cause of the conflict was that after independence the Sinhalese kept the tamils out of education and government etc and then started imposing sinhalese . so per my understanding there was a few decades of economic discrimination that really started this thing. please correct me if im wrong

literacy rate in Sri Lanka 96%, life expectancy 78 yrs have we missed Tamils? Sri Lankans are enjoying high stats in our region. Poverty rate is around 7.2% in Sri Lanka, most poorest area is located in current president's province. (shame to him) Education level is higher in Colombo, Galle, Kandy, Jaffna districts. that means they're getting well education. Mulathive and Nuwara-Eliya districts has some problems, more new schools need for Mulathive district. Nuwara_eliya has natural problem (so cold)

we have different kind of schools for "Sinhala medium", "Tamil medium" and "English Medium". percentage is not based on the ethnic groups. If you're a Tamil you have 3 options, example if you choose English medium then you belong to English medium passing percentage. Passing percentage is calculating of the amount applicants. (Recently Higher education is English medium only)
