Our phased withdrawal from Iraq provides an excellent example of our commitment to a successful phased withdrawal from Afghanistan. And as with Iraq, our responsible drawdown from Afghanistan will not be the end of our support to the Afghan government and people, but the beginning of a new phase in our relationship with that country. US commitment will be long standing so that we maintain the trust built with the Afghans who do not want to be left at the mercy of Taliban’s atrocities. Also, we do not want history to repeat itself as was the case in Afghanistan after Soviet Union’s defeat when our complete withdrawal left a power vacuum in the country that had no security or political stability. And so, our dedication to help Afghans rebuild defense, health, infrastructure, and education remains intact. Defense Secretary Gates assured that, “We're not just going to throw these guys (Afghan security officials) in the swimming pool and walk away.”

All of us feel sorry for the victims of September 11. No one approves of terrorism. Look at the problem from another angle. How many civilians died at the hands of American soldiers (Korea, Vietnam, Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and it is not an exhaustive list). We constantly hear about the victims of the civilian population (these events have become commonplace). U.S. became the world's thug generating death and destruction. This is not "loud" speech. This is reality. Formally, Saddam Hussein was executed for killing dozens of people. Under Bush, Americans have killed Iraqis, a thousand times more than Hussein. Where is Hussein? In the grave. Where is Bush? Continues to chew on bagels at his ranch. Impunity is completely corrupted the United States.
When we criticize the U.S. (we are referring to the U.S. government).

Won't be good for Pakistan as the Taliban shift their focus to conquering Pakistan. After all it is their homeland as well with Afghanistan. With Afghanistan as a base they will able to inflict casualties and retreat back to Afghanistan until Pakistan has weakened.

If there is going to be a wait to fully 'train' Afghan security forces then it may be a very long wait.
I wish Americans had already succeeded in that 'training' part. But, after almost 10 years and tens of billions of $$, the Afghan forces don't seem even better than the para-military forces of Pakistan like FC and the Rangers. Is there any accountability for that failure? Please don't say that: 'Oh, we would have trained them fine but it is the Pakistanis who have been sheltering militants who come and disrupt our training'. There HAS to be some accountability and yet the corporate-media in America is silent on that. 2014 is barely three years away.
