Obama to meet Dalai Lama on Friday as U.S. urges talks with China

WTF is summoning a US official going to do?

Kick out all US NGO's including USAID.

That should be the only proper response. But the spineless CPC cowards won't do it.

As long as the younger generation know that foreign NGOs and news outlets are spies than China will survive. The older Chinese in the party are spineless.

The Chinese government should not take that Lama as a serious issue, it's just not worth it.
Just let those Shxt-eaters worship that monk.
But the FM will not listen. They keep worrying about this guy for nothing.

very simple.

Before CCP, dalai lama is the No. 1 slave lord in tibet. If he wants anyone to die, none cannot disobey him.
At the same time, those with him ranking high also enjoy privilege as well.

After CCP takes over, none of them has such privilege. Of course, that lama wants tibet to be his own. BTW, his version of tibet is 1/4 of China territories, way bigger...

For uighur, well, islamists want its sharia laws, islam fully control... however, those other minorities will definitely say no, including many other minorities.

If you don't read anything beside your argument, no one could understand why Tibet and Xinjiang residents still protest the occupation of China ...

If idiots like you can take some time to do research, you will find tibetians and uighurs flourish better under CCP's rule than under any other dynasties.

Only those separatists from those who conduct terrorist activities will be treated as terrorists.

But you forget as long as Tibetan culture is intact, Dalai Lama will still be considered as the head of Tibetan Buddhism by Tibetan people. The development brought by CCP is unrelated to this position.

This is not really about China.

Obama is just strutting his feathers to show the domestic crowd that he is a tough guy.

Isn't the article says USA recognizes Tibet as part of China already? It is not imperative when two leaders meet each other, every time the unnecessary hue and cry has to be raised. The spiritual leader is at the last episode of his career in this world, we can give him a little bit of respite at this stage.

(Reuters) - ..china will never recognise the United States' appointment of a special coordinator for Tibetan issues, China's foreign ministry said on Monday, saying it opposes any foreign intervention in its internal affairs.

President Barack Obama held low-key talks with the Dalai Lama on Friday, prompting condemnation and warnings from the Chinese government that the meeting with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader would damage ties.

Washington urged the Chinese government on Friday to resume dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representatives without pre-conditions as a means to reduce tensions.

To encourage those talks, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday he had named one of his officials, Sarah Sewall, as a special coordinator for Tibetan Issues.

"The Chinese government resolutely opposes any foreign country using the so-called Tibet problem to interfere in China's internal affairs," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily news briefing.

"China has never and will never recognise the U.S.' so-called special envoy for the Tibet problem."

China calls the Dalai Lama, who fled to India after a failed uprising in 1959, a "wolf in sheep's clothing" who seeks to use violent methods to establish an independent Tibet.

The Dalai Lama says he only wants genuine autonomy for Tibet and denies advocating violence.

Human rights groups say China tramples on the rights of Tibetans and employs brutal methods to enforce its rule. More than 120 Tibetans have set themselves on fire since 2009 in protest against China. Most have died.

Communist Chinese troops took control of Tibet in 1950. China says it "peacefully liberated" the remote region that it says was mired in poverty, exploitation and economic stagnation.

As I have pointed out, if you have ever done some research, you should understand that dalai lama was not the highest leader in the past and there are a lot of spirit leaders in tibet as well. dalai lama was pushed to the top of the rank for political purpose by mongolia emperors quite late, if you look at tibetian history, majority of the time, dalai lama is nowhere to be seen at all.

So if it can be pushed to the top, it can be well pushed down to the bottom. Let alone, there are a lot of so-called spirit leaders there as well.

Let alone, tibet is well under control, though many tibetians still regard him as spirit leader, however, none of them want to go back to the serfdom past. So dalai lama can dream in the last of his few years for his past glory, but it will never go back to reality for him, unfortunately.

But you forget as long as Tibetan culture is intact, Dalai Lama will still be considered as the head of Tibetan Buddhism by Tibetan people. The development brought by CCP is unrelated to this position.
