Obama should visit Pakistan before end of his term: Congressman
By:Raja Zahid A Khanzada
HOUSTON: “Before he ends his presidency, it is important that Honorable Barack Obama visits Pakistan, the foremost ally of USA in the war against terrorism.”
These were the words of social and entrepreneur figure of Texas Pakistani community Tahir Javed of Beaumont, at the special fundraising event arranged for Honorable Congressman Alexander AL Green, at the newly started Taj Restaurant in Houston.
Community Organizer Muhammad Saeed Sheikh was the Emcee at this occasion. Nomi Husain welcomed the Guests while Dr. Yakoob Sheikh introduced the Congressman & Eminent CPA Haroon Shaikh informed that more than $20,000 have been raised for the Election Campaign of Congressman AL Green.
Hosts of the evening were M. J. Khan, Dr. Asaf Qadeer, Tahir Javed, Haroon Shaikh, Nomi Husain, Dr. Yaqoob Shaikh, Mustafa Tameez, Javad Manavi (Joe), and Muhammad Saeed Sheikh.
Prominent businessman of Midland S. Javaid Anwar also was among the supporter of the event as Patron.
“I never ever imagined that in my life time, I will see an African American to become President of USA. Similarly we may very well see in our life time the first elected Pakistani to the House of Representatives, Senate, and the White House, I will make sure that President Obama gets the message about visiting Pakistan before his second term is over. You must have seen that I have been at all the State of the Union Addresses of President Obama, and I reach there ten to twelve hours ahead of time to get the place from where I can get President’s signatures. Tonight as you all have honored me, I will be giving a special pen with President Obama’s signature to each & everyone who has contributed. I only have two pens with me tonight, which I am going to give to M. J. Khan and Saeed Sheikh; but rest of you all should remain be assured, as I will make sure that you all soon receive similar pens,” said an elated and appreciative Honorable AL Green.
He went on to say that there is need to increase the business with Pakistan, and increase the number of visas for the students from Pakistan to come to USA.
The First Pakistani to have been the City of Houston Councilperson for six years before getting termed out, M. J. Khan said that he is not worried about Islamophobes, as Islam belongs to God & He will take care of it. He added that there is no doubt USA is the best country to live; but at the same time we need to be concerned about the criminal justice system of USA, which is discriminatory and law enforcement at times shoot at people of color, assuming they must be criminals; something needs to be quickly done about this.
