NYT: The Specter of Caste in Silicon Valley

Of course, what else? What do you think Hindutva is about? Did you watch that shit that the poster boy of Hindutva intellectualism spouted while speaking to his acolyte and breathless auditor, Rajiv Malhotra? By the end, he stopped trying to exercise any reason, and just fell back on caste being a wonderful motivating factor for different technical specialisations. You would love that two-part interview; both interviewed and interviewer being Brahmin being one of those very karmic coincidences that seem to abound in the world of Hindutva.
Do happen to be a Rajiv Malhotra fan here. He's a good man.

will try and look this up and not comment further on your allegation till then.

heh, I suppose you're also for reparations to current generation Africans in the US ?

because slavery

Deliberate stupidity does not reflect well on you. Guess where affirmative action started?

Most US NRI's that are Hindu, on arrived there on a Hindu-1B visa, are ardent supporters of BJP. In fact, it's among the Indian diaspora in the USA that you find the most rabid Hindutvadis.

An excellent observation, if you like. The question is, do you understand why?

Of course he's a good man. To the likes of you.

To me, he is part of the revisionist scum.

Gaay hamari mata hai. Angrezi nahi atta hai.

I am sorry, deeply sorry. That was cheap and superficial. It is precisely because their technical training drills some English into them that they develop airs and graces and assume that along with their jobs, that their forefathers never could aspire to for lack of the training, their knowledge of English brings privilege - actually, reaffirms privilege.

Remind me one of my Indian friend, whose GF is higher cast Hindu family and girl family isn’t approve of my friend (cast). So they cannot marry, and aren’t even living together either, despite being in US.

See, Japan had a similar caste system before the Meiji Restoration era (19th century). There were the Shoguns, the Samurais, and the Burakumins (similar to Dalits in India). But their country underwent drastic modernization and eliminated that caste system.

Did I confess to you that you are a bright spot, but two dimensional, and devoid of any serious attempt at understanding, dominated entirely by headline knowledge and sound bytes?

Nothing personal.

What special meritocracy has India managed to achieve ?

Caste 2.0? Disguised as IIT+IIM, or the functional equivalent?

When in Rome! o_O:cheesy::rofl:

Ah yes, that "We wuz Arabs, Iranians, Turks" brigade. They are simply embarrassing themselves.

Not to themselves. To themselves, among themselves, they are fighting off the insidious Hindu attack. I deleted several more phrases as I am already personally suspect of being anti-country. Not my country.

Man, these stories make me so sad and angry. A lot of poor Dalit boys in India get lynched or worse for trying to woo upper caste women.

Some of them commit suicide. I am sure works the same with the Indian diaspora in the USA.

They can. She can walk out. If she chooses to retain her fetters, that's her caste-blindness, not her family's.

.

I really don't, actually. I have always wondered that. Why do the Hindus that migrate to America end up being such radical BJP supporters? I swear it's not the case in Singapore, Britain, Germany, and many other countries with Indian diaspora. Why only the USA? It's something that has puzzled me. I spent nearly two years in the States and did not found an answer.

Enlighten me, please!

None of us hate Brahmin human beings. Certainly not the Brahmin females :smitten: They're the best.
Good, nobody should hate people based on where they were born.

What makes them the "best", though ? apart from being brahmins, of course ? :P

We are only opposed to the Brahminiacal caste system, and want India to be free of it permanently.
Good, so am I.

and so is the RSS, apparently.

See, Japan had a similar caste system before the Meiji Restoration era (19th century). There were the Shoguns, the Samurais, and the Burakumins (similar to Dalits in India). But their country underwent drastic modernization and eliminated that caste system.
Interesting, might look into it.

China also had something similar: but it was more along the lines of feudalism.
the Hukou system ?

read something on it the other day, a lot of SE Asian countries follow a version, or their own version of it, often titled similarly. It's all over the place, in Korea and Japan even.

If Japan and China can do it, so can India. All we need is a violent or peaceful overthrow of the present government, and a cultural revolution similar to Mao Zedong. No more Dalits: No more Brahmins. Saara koora ek jaisa hi barabar hai. :woot:
They haven't, no society has. The Europeans, to an extent maybe.. as has their outpost, the USA. Advanced societies.. we'll get there eventually but it can't be forced.

what is with this Brahmin hate though ? I happen to be one lol.. never wore a janaeu, growing up, nobody ever mentioned caste anything to me.. only know mine through going to Tauji's funeral.. where that 'gotra' stuff was mentioned. Cousin married a muslim, i found me a christian girl.. nobody cares. (muslim thing didn't last, but that was for matters not related in any way to religion)

this caste thing is on it's way out, it'll be gone in the next couple decades max.. and gone organically.

irrational lest wing hatred seeds right wing entrenchment <- this is what's basically going on right now.

Thank you but include me out.

Sure I don't generally argue with Bongs on intellectual matters. You people exemplify the Argumentative Indian.

I do respect Amartya Sen: his invention of Human Development Index (HDI) was sheer genius.

Please don't kid yourself; it is everywhere.

The Indians who leave and work elsewhere (I've left and worked elsewhere - disclaimer of freedom from the preconditions) are those who were privileged through their caste roots in the first place and got a differentiated edge through their training. When they land up at their destination, they find that they are unfit to associate with the locals, so they form ghettos. In those ghettos, there is usually the equivalent of one properly rounded, educated mind between all the inmates. That is why they develop these amazing stereotypical behaviour patterns; there is no longer any drag of the untermensch slowing them down.

They all become Rajiv Malhotras and attract the admiration of the @dharmi s of this world.
