NVIDIA Unveils Killer GeForce GTX 1080 And GTX 1070 Pascal Graphics Cards That Slay Titan X

I dabble in animation and mod creation, so a bit for graphics editing on the side. But it's mostly for hardcore gaming.
You have your youtube channel??If so,I would definitely like to check that out.

Sorry to ruin the mood everyone.
Can anyone guide to choose pc and specifications for a beginner? Yes literally a beginner.
Also for the above scenario, is Playstation 4 or equivalent better? Thanks in advance!

Again sorry to ruin the party...

What's your budget? And are you looking for a pre-built computer? Or do you want to build one?

...

If you're building one to match or exceed a console, here's some important info and their cost:

RAM

You're going to want a minimum of 6 GB RAM, but most likely 8 gbs. Anything greater then 8gbs of RAM and you really aren't going to notice a difference in performance. You can get a 2x4 set up for 40 USD at Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428&cm_re=8gb_ram-_-20-231-428-_-Product

It's best to use a dual channel approach - this being two 4 gb cards instead of one 8 gb card - single channel has around a 7% drop-off in performance versus dual channel.

GPU

Anything GTX950 or higher is going to give you superior graphics to consoles - the GTX950 goes for about 160 USD:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Description=gtx950&Submit=ENE

I'd recommend at least a GTX960 or comparable AMD card. Try for at least 3 gbs of VRAM.

PSU

You'll need a PSU with a minimum of 200w overhead to accommodate for other components.

I use something similar to this one, but so long as you know the power requirements of your GPU + 200, you should be able to find the right one for you.

CPU

For the processor, to get console quality performance you're going to need at least an i5 (possibly a late gen i3 if your VRAM and RAM or capable enough), but more likely an i7.

Mid-model i5s, 4000 series, run for about 200 USD.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372&cm_re=i5-_-19-117-372-_-Product

Other stuff

You'll also want cooling systems, a motherboard if you bought your processor without one - be mindful of the chipset of your CPU and GPU or you could end up buying parts that don't fit the motherboard- you'll need a tower and a wireless chipset and a storage device, most probably an SSD.

The tower's an unsung, but important part. It needs to have room for all the components plus cooling. Considering CPUs and GPUs come in different sizes as they get more powerful - the GTX960 being several inches smaller then the GTX970 which is smaller then the GTX980 - it might be best to pick your components first and then find a tower to fit them all, preferably one with good ventilation to help with cooling.

...

If this seems intimidating, building a computer usually is for a novice and even for advanced computer geeks like myself. I'd recommend buying a prebuilt instead and would be happy to help you find one within your budget.

That might as well be Latin to me ! :undecided:

In fact it is Latin to me ! :o:

Don't speak geek Armstrong:P?

Try not to overthink it too much, lest you overclock your brain and burst into flames:flame:.

Happened to me once. Lost an eyebrow... or maybe I just think I did:undecided:. It's hard to tell when you've pencil thin eyebrows to begin with.

Here, they make cooling devices for just such an occasion:

Have 96 GB in my workstation with 2x Xeon 5670 six-cores running Linux.
When I run my little application (it runs for an hour and a half) it generates about
60 GB of data, so I thought a ramdisk would be nice.
It turned out that the ramdisk only shaved a minute from the run time compared to a 24GB system.
2 x 15k RPM SAS disks in a striped RAID configuration gives the same performance as an SSD.
One of CP Professors Beat you here. I am not exactly sure how much does he have but i m sure as heck its 512+GB ram , and he told us about half a dozen things he uses that for which effectively went over our heads.

State of the art facial recognition system maybe :p
What application you run which needs so much hardware?

Did I tell you how technology illiterate I really am ? :ashamed:

I can't even install Windows on my PC and I had a really....really hard time downloading and playing a game on Steam ! :o:

I know I am an ignoramus ! :(

What game:o:?

Here's a step-by-step tutorial:D.

Step 1: find a game to install.

Step 2: Click the install button.

Step 3: Click through the install box.

Step 4: wait for it to be installed. Slow internet day:undecided:.

Step 5: congratulate yourself on following this tutorial successfully:cheers:.

Step 6: foolishly challenge a sassy Norwegian lass to a game and get destroyed:p:.

I know I am an ignoramus ! :(

Nah, you're just different. Tech isn't for everyone and you'd be surprised to know just how many young people in advanced nations are still really, really bad with computers:o:.

Im planning to build a mid range gaming PC. Config:
i7 6700k
Sapphire R9 390 or should go with Geforce 970
Z170 pro motherboard
16 gb RAM, 2 TB HDD, 128GB SSD
Power 750 W

As I said, my disks combined with the linux disk cache are so good that there was no noticeable
difference compared to a 48GB system.

As we are now moving into peeing contest territory, here is the ultimate peeing contest:

Well I've been told that I'm practically a fossil when it comes to Tech ! :(

And I am somewhat old-fashioned as well; somehow opening the door for a lady isn't considered the gentlemanly thing to do anymore either ! :tsk:

I was practically scolded by a feminist friend of mine when I did that....! :o:

@Oscar

Several Billion Dollars worth of R&D for just a new architecture? Is that a typo, because certainly Nvidia is a small fab less company and does not have several Billions of USD to spare on R&D?

I don't think it's a typo. Nvidia spends a lot of its revenue on R&D. In 2014 they spent nearly 1/3 of their total revenue on semiconductor R&D:

Over the course of several years, a few billion doesn't seem unreasonable.

:lol:Silly Armstrong. It's a modern time and you need a modern approach. Let the women open the door for herself, she can handle the responsibility. Just remember the flowers, chocolates, compliments, asking her about her day, pay for dinner and after dinner activities... ... ... :blah::blah::blah: .

I dunno, I always hold doors open for people, so I don't mind it in return. It just seems courteous:unsure:.

What game were you trying to install on Steam?
