Team from Pakistani university NUST declared winners at International UAS Challenge 2019.

  • Students of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) win International UAS Challenge 2019.
  • The competition was arranged by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
  • 32 teams and 350 participants from national and international universities across the world took part in the competition.
  • The team belonging to Pakistan’s prestigious National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have won the Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) Challenge 2019. International UAS Challenge 2019 arranged by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

32 teams and 350 participants from national and international universities across the world took part in the competition. Among them were NUST-PNEC’s NUST Air Works Beta and NUST Air Works Alpha. The team that previously came victorious in the one-year long exercise is NUST Air Works Beta.

Prior to the event, the teams engaged in nine months long phase of design and development. Following that, they demonstrated on the UAS Challenge fly-off event. The said event was held on 16-18 June and marked the culmination of the entire exercise.

Pakistan has always produced brilliant engineers, tbh. The institutions have mostly let them down. NUST is a bright beacon right now for engineering in Pakistan with a heavy emphasis on research. GIKI has lost quite a bit of its prestige but it is still a very good school. LUMS' SSE isn't bad at all either but they are too new and could really use a stronger focus on research.
