Another 'plausible' conclusion is that we see increase in range of Prithvi.

In addition to increase in fuel....This can be attributed to better software and modern guidance system.
The missile 'elongates' trajectory by use of tail fins,and manoevers itself into non ballistic path or a controlled non ballistic descent..
Thus increasing range with same amount of fuel.

Actually the purpose of these large delta is to provide Prithvi with a modified ballistic trajectory. After the initial boost phase which propels the missile to its apogee, it follows a glide trajectory towards its target during the descent. This allows for high manoeuveribility which can be used for both surgical precision and deceiving ABMs.

With the addition of modern Laser-ring INS and satellite navigation, Prithvi can now strike within meters of the intended target.

Other than this.

Increase in range can also be attributed to special coating materials developed by DRDO.
The missile was from production stock and one can notice the difference in the cammo layout of the warhead and the body.. which shows that the live warhead was replaced with a different colored dummy one.
