NSG to hold unprecedented special session to discuss India's membership

Will India get into NSG

If Modi wants our support in the NSG and the UNSC, he knows what to do. We are businessmen, looking first and foremost for our own national interests.

India was willing to sign the CISMOA/LSA in return for America's NSG support, that was a very hefty payment. And they can't even guarantee that India will get the NSG seat. The concessions China would accept are economic rather than the use of India's military bases, not much in comparison.

Agreed with your statement.

We need to ramp up our economic ties. They are the solution for all outstanding issues. It's a pragmatic approach.

Let's not pop the champagne just yet. There's only a 5% chance of India getting NSG membership as even one country can throw the spanner into the works. And you have China and Turkey to contend with.

It most probably will be postponed to the special session of the NSG slated to be held later this year.

If we fail now, the Congress are the ones who will pop the champagne bottles, gloating at the failure of Modi's diplomacy! Man, they're really going to go to town trumpeting this as a debacle compared to Manmohan Singh's success in consummating the nuclear treaty with the US in 2008.

This is an important task of the West especially US.
The finalisation of importing of their reactors in to India would only happen if we gets in to NSG.That is the deal.
If not that deal would remain in paper until we get the seat.

Does not look good for us right now. Even Brazil joined those opposing.

For others this is a long term investment .Otherwise a major nation will get stronger without any responsibilities to NSG

For NSG we can allow China to continue with the current trade surplus in bilateral trade without throwing a spanner into it, that's billions of dollars of benefit every year.

Was willing ,but not signed ,right?
Big lift is their responsibility ,if they want concession from India .
Chinese would only get concession in trade field and if they dont cooperate then they can say bye bye to world fastest growing market.

As if India is paying us billions every year in trade deficit as a "favour" to China?

Nobody buys from us to do us a "favour". They are doing it because we provide the most competitive option. Indians are buying from us because they think it provides the most benefits for them.

In the market economy, the most competitive gets the most orders. Simple.

If another country was more competitive, you would have already jumped ship at the first opportunity. Nobody on Earth believes that you are buying from China because of some emotional crap, Indians are trying to get the best deal for themselves.

.
Problem here is that even 1 member can scuttle indias entry.
I dont understand how a group is made which needs all 48 votes to get new member admitted ?

I am not much hopeful.

Latest update is at least 5 countries have raised the objection.
So dont be hopeful at all. Just enjoy your waiver for the time being.

OK I look forward to you cutting off trade ties after we veto your NSG and UNSC application. :enjoy:

As if we are forcing you to trade. Indian businessmen want the best deal, and China is the best deal. If you want to cut off trade ties then stop boasting and just do it?

Or you could be sensible like Modi and offer even more economic deals.

Fair expectation. States need to wok with national interests in give and take.

A very crude idea of national interest. Market interests are not the only way to measure advantage.

BTW very mature trends on the polls...all Pakistanis vote no and all Indians vote yes

There is a reason behind the changing of financial meeting between China and India .This NSG will play crucial part in there .We also didnt forced you trade in here .Did we ?
If you want profit ,you can invest and take profit .If you dont then others are here to use that opportunity .

Our major partners are GCC and West .

Yah coz congis are jokers...even though 2008 deal was great NSG is a much bigger deal coz u r dealing with more than 40 countries at once

Jeez man, let the diplomats sort it out. It's not as if we know what they want, maybe trade is not an issue at all.

Yeah sure. We want to make profit, you want to make profit.

If you cut off trade, then neither side makes profit. Well done.

Sorry, business and geopolitics is not about emotions. If you can't offer enough to get our support on the NSG and UNSC seat then you won't get it.

And I bet India won't cut off trade either. But I would love to be proven wrong, see if you can put your money where your mouth is for once.

.
USA has played it really well for both cases:

1.India gets into NSG

Indo-US strategic partnership gets a boost, economic ,strategic and diplomatic ,movement on all fronts.

2.India doesn't get into NSG with Chinese opposition after USA support.

Asia Pacific alliance for SCS gets strengthened, India will get involved in SCS further strengthening the partnership & nothing changes because of the waiver ,defence relationship will expand.
