The opening to China is not about China on its own. We're trying to improve relations with India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Burma etc. We're looking at an Asian century not an exclusively Chinese century.

China is the one that makes the most relevant in UK future. How many dollar has India invest in UK? Can India provide a cost effective future nuclear plant and high speed train to UK future? No.. Only China can. Can China massive overseas asset investment in UK bank makes a different? Yes.

Correct. In fact, a part of this 'aid' was probably money sourced to NGOs such as Greenpeace to agitate against the Kudankulam nuclear power plant - where all work stopped for over 2 years, after the reactor was 98% complete. At a time when the whole world is trying to cut down on use of fossil fuels, why would someone oppose nuclear power beats me. So even this 'aid' is really poisoned.

Incidentally, since we are so close to the anniversary of the Bangladesh war, I recall reading somewhere that the Brishits were sending a carrier task force to India in 1971 to 'deter' India. Didn't work.

Another example of British perfidy - the Abadan crisis - where Royal navy actually intercepted Iranian oil tankers on high seas - normally considered an act of piracy.
