My understanding was that there were 2 designs vying for the advanced jet trainer. The JL-9 and the L-15. has the design been selected yet?

not yet. but in the video(not the one I post here) I read from officials face that L-15 has shown him enough capability to elbowe JL-9 into flying schools.

It's said that the upgraded JL-9 will be renamed as Sea hawk, but a public viewpoint affirms it's a good trainer for Su-27, FC-1 and J-8ii pilots.

the twin engine L-15 actually has an alternative design for single engine, and Hongdu can power it with indigenous engines like WS-11. beside safety enhancement, a twin engine design seems to make itself more attractive in the competition. why taking on twin engine design while sacrificing lower cost, higher maintainability and less weight of single engine? Hongdu is a shrewd businessman.

The trainer seems impressive, but i think PAF doesnt have a immediate need of it as currently we seem to be fine with the K-8.
