I think it's cool. Although Max speed of Mach 1.4 bother me slightly, I think Mach 2.0 atleast for a twin-engine plane would be more ideal. I suppose there is nothing wrong with that either.. because trainer aren't suppose to fly that fast. It is actually quite similar spec to the South Korean T-50 Golden Eagle, which also flies at Mach 1.4 with similar weight (6500 kg).

What I am more interested in, are the two engines powering it. It is said two DV-2F or AI-222K-25F turbofan engines are fitted on the aircraft, and there isn't much info about these engines. Are they chinese origin? or others?

I just got a video of L-15's reporting aerobatic flight within AVIC2.
L-15 is a supersonic lightweight aircraft, but what I want to highlight is its low speed maneuverability, the bird was circling low overhead at about 300kmh.

Frankly you are adding headache to your logistics by having two engines for a trainer.

Well, twin engines does have added benefit of "safety"... if one engine failed you still have another. And since this is a two-seater for training pilot, more safety is better to protect two pilot's life.

Now China's AL-222-25F, under cooperation by Ivchenko and China's 618 institute.
Being fully capitalized, this Chinese version has been developed much faster than its whole family. AL-222-25F is based on АИ-222-25 with afterburner,it's superrior in thrust (45KN).

a good comparison is with US TFE1042-70/F125 thrust: 4208kg , thrust rate:6.81

My understanding was that there were 2 designs vying for the advanced jet trainer. The JL-9 and the L-15. has the design been selected yet?

Looks are definately very impressive. Good old Chinese innovation with some help from the old Russians.
