I do believe that chinese are trying to tell us something by these small intrusions and India shouldn't take them lightly. Although I am a firm believer of diplomatic solution to all problems, but the need for a little precaution at the chinese side of the border is in order perhaps. My guess (mind it guys, its a guess only, so don't ask for any proof/ link etc.), Chinese are trying to tell that if India can look to defend Arunachal by increasing troops in north-eastern side, China can also look to strike elsewhere through tibet. We all know why tibet is of such importance to China and why they are developing the region at a breakneck speed with rai link and airports. Its the only region from where China can engage India in a conventional war. I hope and pray to God that there will be no future war in the South Asia in the future, but if it happens, our boasted "century of Asia" will surely go down the drain.

i dont advocate war here but we have to be careful, maintain our strength in that area and any attempt for incursion should be handled by any means because the moment we show weakness they are going to chew us.
i think they are trying to test our tolerance and we gotta be patient, not give any reason to attack on us.
let them do these picnic parties on unguarded border but when it comes to arm conflict we must be ready to show our teeth and use em well.

Now that clearly explains why we are raising 2 more divisions, :agree:

Indian Army To Raise Two New Divisions to increase tactical strength.

NISHIT DHOLABHAI

New Delhi, Sept. 11: Delhi may play down Beijing’s posturing in Arunachal Pradesh but a concerned Indian Army is raising two more divisions, or about 30,000 men, in the Northeast. In a move that could raise the hackles of neighbouring Pakistan and China, India will soon raise two new division-sized army formations to give more teeth to its mountain warfare machinery.

With options open to deploy on the mountainous terrains anywhere along the borders with the two neighbouring countries, the two new divisions could be raised in states from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim.

The Army already has 10 Divisions dedicated to mountain warfare and another infantry division earmarked for high altitude operations.

The army has sounded an operational alert on the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC) after reports of a Chinese military exercise involving 50,000 troops in Tibet, where Beijing has increased its activities. Correspondingly, the Indian Army is said to be conducting an operations exercise in Arunachal.

Sources said one of the two new divisions would be stationed in Arunachal to take care of the China-India-Myanmar axis and the other at Leimakhong, 20km from Imphal, to cover the Bangladesh-India-Myanmar axis. One of the divisions is already being raised, sources said.

Although the two divisions together make up a Corps’ strength, they would be separated and placed under the respective controls of the 3 Corps and 4 Corps, sources said. The division at Leimakhong will be under the 3 Corps, based at Rangapahar near Dimapur in Nagaland. The one in Arunachal will be under the 4 Corps, based in Upper (eastern) Assam.

Army chief General Deepak Kapoor today met Corps commanders and top officers of the Eastern Command in Calcutta, apparently to discuss China, which has built highways parallel to the LAC with approach roads intruding into Arunachal.

The divisions are being raised fast and army officers have been issued posting orders to various locations. Troops have been pulled out of army units from across the country. The 57 Mountain Division in Manipur is expected to move to southern Assam.

The air assets would include helicopter gunships and attack helicopters to provide the two divisions capabilities to carry out manoeuvres for countering the terrain impediments.

"The gunships and attack choppers will be necessary for providing the two formations fire power in a mountain terrain, as the army will not be in a position to deploy tanks and armoured vehicles," sources said.

The fire power in the third dimension (air) was required due to difficulties the army would face in using artillery guns also in an operation on a mountainous terrain.

"The air assets are an integral part of any mountain division to provide the fighting ground troops logistics and fire support," the sources said.

The mountain divisions are usually trained for specialised warfare, and the troops carry specialised weaponry for operations.

Forget it. China is far, far ahead. They have even built roads into Indian territory. not the cheap potholed crap but world-class highways. Chinese troops can simply roll into Arunachal and Sikkim and Indian troops will be able to do nothing.

It is best if India gives up Sikkim, Arunachal, and gives up its claim over Aksai Chin. China is only going to get stronger and there is no point trying to antagonize them. They can easily play havoc in India with their intelligence agencies. Something that India is incapable of doing in China.

This is a very prickly India, a very different india, muscular india, Bring it on India -- I wonder if this the way to go, India may have friends far away, in it's immediate neighborhood, it has not a single friend - why is that?

India must be a member of UNSC, it must be a great economic power, a great cultural power -- exactly how are those ambitions served by being at odds with each and every one of it's immediate neighbors??

Hostile towards China, Hostile towards Pakistan, hostile to bangladesh, Hostile to Lanka - North, South, East and West -- and confident that it can take on all - interesting.

Could it be that indian diplomacy is not being as successful as it needs to be?

I don't know where you get your facts muse. Indo-Bangladesh relations are improving quickly, Indo-Sri Lanka relations are great as usual.

Smaller neighbors are jealous, that's all.

.
Yes, of course, they are jealous. But that not a solution is it? at the end of the day, North, South, East and West, for whatever reason, it's bad nuz.

I really do wonder why this observation is not being made by Indians themselves - 2 divisions for every side? God forbid should these jealous neighbors .. well, better safe than sorry -- unless of course Mr. Bush's "Bring it on" has some resonance among thinking Indians.

.
Its like they are treating India as Trashcan. Previously they dumped expired poke meat and now wrappers of biscuits and cigarettes  China couldn't have been more creative in bringing a soft insult to India.

:china:

.
Better safe than sorry indeed. But India is no match for China. It is better to recognize the fact - like Pakistan did - and give up the territory claimed by them as well as Dalai Lama.

Similarly, India's neighbors should stop fooling their stupid masses with propaganda and try to accomodate India's interests instead of constantly antagonizing her with terrorist activities.
