AHMEDABAD: Close on the heels of British MPs inviting him to address their Parliament, Australia on Friday extended an invitation to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi to visit that country.

Australian high commissioner to India Patrick Suckling met Modi in Gandhinagar and invited him to visit Australia, a statement from the Gujarat government said.

"India has been on the top in Australia's foreign policy owing to smooth relations and parallels between both the countries. Developing relations with Gujarat has been on the top priority since last 10 years," Suckling told Modi.

They discussed about the possible ties between both the regions in different sectors such as education, sports, agriculture, dairy technology, water management and infrastructural facilities, among others.

Modi invited Suckling to attend Vibrant Gujarat Global Agro Tech Summit and Exhibition which is scheduled in coming September and to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit in 2015.

Last week, Britain's Opposition party's Labour Friends of India chairman Barry Gardiner sent a letter to Modi inviting him to the House of Commons to speak on 'The Future of Modern India'.

Does not necessarily mean the Aussies love Modi.

Everyone is hedging their risks ..just in case..

It is really funny a person who was considered a pariaha by the foreign countries now being invited officially to come and address their MPs in their parliament.

Only interests are permanent.. the rest changes.

Never heard of him.

Also he isn't addressing parliament. That's reserved for special people.

Had it been for business, the Aussies would have invited Hitler and Mussolini too. This is what they should be doing, for a tiny resource rich country anyway.

Unlikely.

The Australia Act of 1986 effectively terminated the ability of the British Parliament or Government to make laws for Australia or its States.

Back during the times of Hitler & Mussolini London ruled.

Are you comparing Modi ji to Hitler ji and Mussolini ji?

Btw, Australians fought Hitler and Mussolini on the side of the Allied forces.

I was pointing out to the 'current political psyche' in Australia, just in case you missed my point.

No i'm not, Hitler and Mussolini were leaders of their respective countries, not a politician who's just making too much noise, there is hardly any comparison.

Even hardcore Deoband mullas are coming over to the right side man.

Time you guys made peace with the future.

We have an ideological war going on with the Deoband. They have always let down the Muslim cause by scumming to anyone/anything in power. Deoband opposed our quest for liberty, for that they shall always be an enemy to every Pakistani. Deoband scumming to a mass murderer of Muslims is actually something we were expecting.

I meant they are probably more kattar than you guys in terms of Islam and all. So if they can see the light, why can't you?

I do not deny that they always opposed the creation of Pakistan, and hence you would have no love lost for them.

Btw, who is the "mass murderer of Muslims"? Modi ji never murdered any Muslim. He in fact used his state machinery to prevent more Muslims from being killed. Had it not been for that, the Center was in no mood for the killing to stop.

These are indisputable facts having passed the full rigor of law. Over a decade and counting now.
