A 53-year old government employee joined thousands of other students who are appearing for their matriculation exams in the city on Tuesday.

Muhammad Shafeeq, a peon at WAPDA, said that he could only complete education till grade 6 when he was young. “Now that I am an old man my daughters encouraged me to give exams and complete school,” he said.

Despite being unable to study as a young boy, Shafeeq educated all of his daughters.

According to Peshawar Board Chairman Dr Shafi Afridi as many as 130,000 students will appear in the exams.

If the writer doesnt know that students 'take' the exam then perhaps he [the reporter/writer] should have also sat down to retake the matriculation exam

I salute the spirit of this Gentleman. I wish we Pakistanis will learn from his example as there is no age bar for furthering one's education.

@Manticore , I agree with you. The peon probably spoke in Urdu and said " Mein nay imtahaan DIYA hai" , which the reporter of this English newspaper translated ( in English) as " GAVE the exam ". So it is the author of this article who needs to go back to School to learn to write English properly.
