This is not the right choice :( we need Japanese technology, the original and the quality one. Our Government is putting lives and money of Indians at risk by opting for such cheaper options to save money. Apart from that, why are we allowing them to make profits from our money, they will use that money to cause security concerns for India at the border in return. This is so bad.....I hope Japanese come up with better offers and save us from this blunder. Hindi-Japani bhai bhai.

This is a crazy idea. $ 32 billion to get from Delhi to Chennai in about 6 hours? Catch a damn flight. Cheaper & will save us $ 32 billion that can be spent elsewhere. Any line over a 1000km (preferably under 800 km) is pointless because flights make more economic sense at those distances. This is just loco.:cuckoo:

That's $32 billion in our pocket as well. And not in Rupees, but in India's limited foreign currency.

India keeps pushing back signing the initial Rafale order due to lack of funds in their budget. Money is obviously a problem for India.

Plus the cost would twice that of an AC 3 tier.

Absolutely, these trains will have a top speed of 300 kmph, average speed will probably be below that, we already have trains running at 140 or 160 kmph and engines capable of running at 225 kmph. Apart from that we have our low-cost airlines, why do we need to spend a whooping $32 bn on a passenger train NOW when we have other far more important priorities!! Rather, we can spend the money on dedicated freight corridors, or upgrade our old lines in important routes to run our own trains at 225 kmph! @anant_s @gslv mk3 what do you think?

Who said we will be defaulting, we are honest people. But, since Modi has already declared that incursions and business cannot go hand in hand, we will attach cost to each Chinese incursion a part of the agreement. However, I am banking more on our true friends, the Japanese. Where is @Nihonjin1051, gear up buddy and snatch the deal. :)

LOL, if you unilaterally decide to pay back less than what you owe, that is defaulting.

India's credit rating is already only one step away from junk status, if you default your cost of borrowing is going to soar. And you need to borrow all the time, to plug that giant current account deficit you run every year.

That's why it's better to have a current account surplus.

Comapred with air-line at one time, High-speed railway can carry more passengers and goods, cheaper ticket as fast as the flight. For 1billion population of India, u need high-speed railway like CRH.

Who said unilaterally, I said agreement, either sign that clause or forget the deal. :)

@SarthakGanguly we need more hawks on the negotiating table.

You already need to borrow in foreign currency every year, to plug that giant current account deficit. (Much of which is owed to China).

Do you really want to hand us $32 billion more of your foreign currency on top of that?

Those people in the picture won't be the passengers of HSR anyway, they are the Indian counterparts of Chinese poors who also can't access Chinese HSR service, that's why we need more trains for them rather than these toys.

Apparently you are, since you're coming to China asking for help building a high speed railway.

If you could have done it without us, you would have.

This is a business deal you clown. I can't believe the amount of insecurity you have everything has to be either the 'world is begging from great mother china' or 'why are we demeaning ourselves begging something for the world'.

.
Why does India want ghost trains anyway? The experience of open air, insects crashing into one's mouth, under the scorching sun or the monsoon rain with thunder entering the ears like music is much more thrilling. This is it means to be alive living on the edge :D

You ai't getting $32 B. (If we end up choosing you) we'll buy the technical designs and BEML will make the locos. Indian engineering companies will build the infra. That will be the case under all circumstances- even if it went to japan. All out metros are being built that way and no chance this one won't go that way.

Trade deficit with China will be wiped off by 2018 or earlier, the mistakes of last 10 years will be rectified soon. :)

Like I said, if you could do it yourself, you would not ask China to do it for you.

$32 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to our $4 trillion in currency reserves. But India has serious budgetary problems, they can't even start the initial order of the Rafale, not even the initial order. They had to delay it, due to there being no money in the budget.
