Gurmehar Kaur lost her father Captain Mandeep Singh in the 1999 Kargil War.

NEW DELHI: She spoke her mind on the attacks on Delhi University students in a 140-word Facebook post and a picture put out hours after the ABVP activists clashed with Ramjas College students this week. Three days later, the Kargil martyr daughter's social media campaign to protest the "tyranny of fear" unleashed at Delhi University has gone viral.

Over 20 students were injured on Wednesday when ABVP activists clashed with students protesting the Ramjas College cancelling its invite to JNU's Umar Khalid - one of the students charged with sedition last year - for a seminar.

Later in the evening, Lady Sri Ram College student Gurmehar Kaur, posted her message and a profile picture holding a handwritten placard that read: "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".

Gurmehar lost her father Captain Mandeep Singh in the 1999 Kargil War. She was only two, and, as she once put it, "grew up hating Pakistan and Pakistanis". At six, she tried to stab a woman in a burqa "because of some strange reason I thought she was responsible for my father's death".

That is when her mother made her understand that it was not Pakistan, but the war that killed her dad.

In her post, she called the brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP very disturbing.

"It was not an attack on protesters, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in every Indian's heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation," the 20-year-old literature undergraduate said on Facebook.

The brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP is very disturbing and should be stopped. It was not an attack on protestors, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in ever Indian's heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation. The stones that you pelt hit our bodies, but fail to bruise our ideas.
This profile picture is my way of protesting against the tyranny of fear. If you are a student in any Indian university, in any Indian state and you wish to protest against ABVP then take a similar selfie and make it your profile picture. Use the hashtag #StudentsAgainstABVP and copy paste this message along with it.
It's time for every student of India to unite! Jai Hind! Jai Democracy!

"The stones that you pelt hit our bodies, but fail to bruise our ideas. This profile picture is my way of protesting against the tyranny of fear," she added in the post.

The voices of support started pouring in soon enough. Thousands shared her post, many showed their support by replacing their profile picture with a photograph holding a placard similar to hers.

There were abuses as well. One said she hadn't understood what her father had died for. Someone else called her an anti-national too.

She responded to this one: "Do we fight for 'anti-nationals'? No! What is our fight for? Students. Our right to free speech and safe academic spaces!"

The clash on Wednesday erupted over an invite to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to speak at a seminar on 'Culture of Protests' which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.

Junior home minister Mr Kiren Rijiju has, however, insisted that "No anti-India slogans" would be allowed in the name of freedom of speech. "Freedom of expression in the country does not give anyone the right to make college campuses hub of anti-national activity," he said.

Her Father sacrificed his life fighting the Pakistanis and terrorists and here she is siding with people shouting "Bharat Tere Tukde Honge". "Kashmir maange Azaadi", "Bastar Maange Azaadi" gang.

That is her democratic right but this is a sad state of affairs.

Her mother's statement that "it was not Pakistan, but the war that killed her dad." is wrong because it was not her dad that crossed the LoC and occupied the mountains. It was Pakistan that did it and caused the war that martyred her father.

What she is unable to understand is that it is because of the sacrifices of her father and 1000's of other martyrs that the people she is supporting are freely able to shout "Bharat Tere Tukde Honge". "Kashmir maange Azaadi", "Bastar Maange Azaadi" It is a democratic country and these freedom of expressions are possible only in a democracy which in turn is enriched and protected by her father's blood

Lol standing against tyranny of fear? that's cute.

And this one takes the cake,
"Do we fight for 'anti-nationals'? No! What is our fight for? Students. Our right to free speech and safe academic spaces!"

I hope she finds her safe space.

India should stop using Sikhs as human shields.
Hindus come forward for photo session, while Sikhs and Nepalis are sent on forward base.
All nice postings in bharti army belong to hindus, where as all Sikhs and Nepalis are choosen for hardwark.
I have seen you posting similar message on different threads, Why don't you relax and just chill!

. .
I'm an NGO and working to save Sikhs and Nepalis, from becoming human shields of bharti misadventures.
Would you like to spread the message around, where you live?
You are an organisation? You seem to be on some really strange "Stuff" man, Ciao!

. . .
It's appalling to see RSS terrorists trying to pretend that she is wrong. RSS-BJP is the biggest terrorist group India has. Sanghi terror against secular voices, Abrahamic religion followers, lower castes are now known to all. The slaves of Golwalkar and Savarkar should rather be put in jail than on message boards.

.
That's the problem... there's only one!
Where as all of risky jobs are undertaken by Sikhs and Nepalis.

Well who knows it might be that picture alone which helped you metamorphize from a human to a NGO

.
Media is now the really sickular, presstitutes doing paada-seva of RSS-BJP terrorists. The Godse lovers, the Virat Hindu with his trishul ready to unleash against minorities and others, must be crushed for the sake of this nation. Hey, Virat Hindu, living in a RSS Camp filled with hatred for infidels, dreaming of India washed with the blood of Kufar (Muslims, Christians, Jews etc), Understand India's fate is never going to be RSS India, rather it will be secular and democratic India devoid of RSS terror. Do whatever you can, India is not something you slaves of terrorists like Golwalkar or Savarkar can take over and destroy.

When a Martyr's daughter speaks up against ABVP Gundaraj.
Our Chaddi Journalist thinks, Opposing ABVP goons is Anti National.

Its the same girl
"Pakistan didn't kill my father, war did". RIP Logic. Who started war, and should India not defend when attacked?

.
What I can sense from OP is She is just another victim of Sickularism...
