Read it and weep. On the Post's site Jennifer Rubin first quotes the Weekly Standard, in a rushed item about the Norway horror:

The numbers are correct. India gained Independence on 15th August 1947 and the Muslim majority areas formed a new country Pakistan (At that time Bangladesh was East Pakistan. They became independent on 16th Dec 1971). At the time of partition of India and Pakistan there was migrations of millions of people. The Hindus and Sikhs from the areas which were in Pakistan migrated to India and similarly Muslims in India migrated to Pakistan. This explains the big dip in the number.

But this does not explain the steady decline afterwords
