They were to attend the opening of a tourism project.

It was one of three helicopters ferrying a delegation of foreign diplomats for the inauguration of a chairlift project built by the air force for tourists in the area.

The chairlift project was reportedly completed more than six months ago, but its inauguration was delayed due to Prime Minister Sharif's other commitments.

still no information on why such a large contingent was visiting that place (3 helicopters, around 37 foreigners in together, the PM was also on route to Gilgit and his plane was turned back without landing after this accident). I saw one report saying that PM was going for inauguration but inauguration of what?? what was so big that 37 foreigners for many different nations were traveling to the same ceremony!!

PM was to inaugurate some chairlift project, diplomats were invited to the ceremony plus diplomats were also expected to hold a high-level meeting with CM GB.

Exactly my point! Indian envoy wasn't the part of trip maybe that's the reason Indian media has nothing but to speculate.

Anyways,, it really is a sad sad accident. Prayers for all those who were injured or killed in this accident.
