Northern pakistanis linkage to europeans?

afghans are called pathans. that is what they are known in india. now if pathan=pashtun is not sure. if sher shah suri is not a pashtun, then there are no pashtuns in india.

Naw i wont say european, we pashtuns are eastren iranian people, and our facial features varies from irani to central asian , even south asian. Not every pashtun is green eyed and not every pashtun is "surkh o sapaid" but its ratio is higher than say punjabis, balochs, tajiks and our other neighbours....my area is desert and is very sunny , yet most of the pashtuns are very light skinned , but our neighbours, jats of dI khan, are very black-skinned. In our pashto there is saying "as black as jatt". So it has some thing to do with genetics and race.
Those people of chitral and gilgit look turkic to me, not europeans, they are extra reddish because of high altitude and are very short statured....
Kashmiries of kashmir valley , not of jammu, mirpur, are just fair skinned indic people.

I think to generalize that all Pashtuns or North Pakistanis are of European race etc would not be right.The Indian SC is of immense ethnic and racial diversity.Even in India we have got people who have highly Nordic features but are mere Hindu's.For eg:

the other ones could also be mixed, I have never seen a indian who looks european, sure there are some fairer indians, but they never look caucasian/european

There is no such thing as "pure pashtun", through out times we pashtuns of present day KPK had absorbed indic population while those of afghanistan had absorbed central asian people. For us a negroid pashto speaker with strong pashtunwali is more pashtun than the one who is european looking but doesnt speak or do pashto.

Majority Pakistanis are caucasian keep in mind all caucasian people are not white.

What I find confusing is that the work "Caucasian" has so many different meanings depending on the context. It's sometimes thought to be a synonym for "white people" but in anthropology "caucasian" peoples from north africa, and extends into central/south asia. So by that definition there are at least as many non-white caucasians as there are white ones. This would include almost all pakistanis, not just Kalash, Chitralis, Hunza who appear more european.





What I found strange was that once I had gotten a speeding ticket and the cop check the box marked "white" as my race even though I am pretty dark skinned, maybe not for a pakistani, but in general, and don't look remotely European unless you include some parts of south europe.

mixed- yes. that's why they are called pathans(that's what I understood). there are other groups like shias(don't know their tribe) who looks iranid.

@Monkey D Luffy - do you consider pathans(refer post3430967) in india as pashtuns? just to know the opinion.

Caucasian definition : People who live in caucasus region or the decendants of them.
