What happen if it manage to sneak thru the strait and reach beyond pearl harbour? It has a good chance of striking American mainland. This missile was never intended to target the us mainland its job is to provide the dprk with a regional second strike capability probably as part of a nuclear triad,in addition the sinpo class boat is clearly only a test bed we still have yet to see what the actual in service ballistic missile sub will look like and what features ie number of missiles, aip, range etc.. it will possess
As for the range of the slbm the point I was making which seems to have eluded you is that we have no way of knowing if the distance the test missile flew was its maximum range or not and judging by the very many similarities with this missile to both the a1 and jl1 it would seem very likely that its true range is probably much greater perhaps as much as twice the test distance in fact.
You`re wrong again I`m afraid both the us and russia have operationally launched cruise missiles from submarines with the first ones being launched waaay back during 1991s desert storm.
As for the turbo popeye it depends what exactly you mean by "better" both weapons have their respective strengths and weaknesses so its hard to say if one is better than the other the big advantage of cruise missiles is their compact size and cheapness/easiness to produce,it actually wouldnt surprise me if the dprk went and unveiled/deployed a cruise missile as well just as iran has recently gone and done.
You dont realise how difficult to master under water SLBM launch? The submarine need to move and launch at the same time while you need to ensure the stability of SLBM launch when sub is moving. It is a big problem plaguing Type092 SSBN for many years before Chinese master it. North Korean for such a small nation mastering this technique is a feat. I can bet the Israel now do not have such tech.Israel is obviously light years ahead of North Korea in terms of tech.
What North Korea is doing now is not exactly cutting edge, this is quite old technology. Though still surprising that NK could pull it off, considering the state of their country.
