Why do you still remember your roots as a second generation in Canada? Polish forget their roots soon after arriving in North America.
I can't speak for the Polish, they're roots aren't that interesting anyways. But there's nothing wrong with remembering your roots and preserving your identity. The Indian subcontinent is one of the most rich and vibrant cultures in the world. Being a Desi in Canada isn't like being a Pole or some other European group. They are White Christians and it is much easier for them to assimilate into Canadian society. Us Brown people are a different race, speak a different language, have a different Religion (the main thing that sets us apart), and an entirely different culture. We have dietary restrictions which the rest of society doesn't share. We have different family values in a society where the majority of people are born out of wedlock. We tend to be highly educated and successful, but even those of us who aren't aren't comparable to the working class and impoverished Canadians whose lives revolve around drugs and alcohol.
A nation of people that easily forget their roots, their language, their religion, their customs, after just one or two generations, is not a worthy nation.
