If I was China I wouldn't write them off so quick. You are about to hit the same crisis the west had in the 1970's.
You could export/outsource all your worst and most polluting manufacturing to North Korea at a cost even lower than China.
You'd keep your GDP while cleaning up your nation.

This is not easy. Some Chinese businessmen did build mining factories there, they exported machinery, equipment, technician...But Kim Jun en confiscated all the stuff, and collected all the profits into his own pocket. That's why no one in China would like to start business there ever.

Well, that’s exactly what China had planed for NK, we wanted to invest in NK and build infrastructure, we want NK to learn from us to build up their nation, and at a certain point when NK is developed enough, we will encourage the reunification, it’s just a matter of time, and Kim’s family can keep their cheep lives, a pretty good lives in China after reunification, but u know, they are lunatics.

Regard to the crisis u mentioned, I don't see that coming. we have already started to outsource our low end industries to south east asia, but the west interpreted it as we are losing the manufacturing and heading to a crisis.

The North Korean regime is no longer a trust-worthy ally of us. We do not feel any sense of importance to divert our resources to fight for this regime. They are becoming a burden. If they collapse, it would not be a great loss to us. We just want to protect ourselves from the consequences of their collapse.
