What's new

North America’s first Islamic art museum to open in Toronto

.
Its funny because after destroying 4 Muslim countries (Afghanistan , Libya , Iraq , Palestine) and now , on verge of destruction of Syria , building a museum , and that has architecture that is nothing close to Islamic architecture is suppose to peek interest in Islam.

However , its a museum what can you say no one goes there , but cities yeah people did live there

I don't know , will see how the museum does after few years or it gets turned into another art exhibit

I am not familiar with the whole Ismaili sect so will do some read up on that

Canada is not a "Christian" nation.
a nation is said to be a christian nation if majpority are christians..thats like saying turkey is not a islamic nation....
religion in Canada encompasses a wide range of groups and beliefs. The majority of Canadians are Christians, with the Catholic Church having the most adherents. Christians, representing 67% of the population, are followed by people with no religion with 24%.Islam is the second largest religion in Canada, practised by 3.2% of the population.

Although the main purpose of this diplomatic letter was to seek French support against Russia, one-third of its length is filled with a decorative gold illuminated heading. The magnificent heading was meant to express to its recipient, the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (reigned 1804–14), the importance of the sender, the crown prince ‘Abbas Mirza, son of Qajar ruler Fath ‘Ali Shah (reigned 1797–1834). The broad, empty margin on the right and the exaggerated distance between the written lines were also intended to convey a sense of prominence. Following a long Persian chancery tradition, the letter is written in a controlled nasta‘liq, a cursive, sloping script that evolved in fourteenth-century Iran and was typically used for literary and poetic compositions

This painting is a composite album page that was skillfully put together most probably before the death of Moghul Emperor Jahangir (reigned 1605–27). The upper portion of the folio has intricately illuminated sections dating to the fifteenth and late sixteenth centuries placed above two genealogical sections from the early seventeenth century. The central medallion with its elaborate border and jewel-like colours features Jahangir at the apex of his immediate family. The emperor is surrounded by portraits of his male progeny, some of whom are still young children. The bottom section of the album page has an earlier genealogy of Jahangir’s Timurid ancestors.

The technique employed here is the first clear evidence of Western influence; although the Islamic world was not unaware of monumental painting - the paucity of surviving examples is attributable to the accidents of history - painting on a large-scale support, separate from the wall, is an imported genre. India also appears to witness an upsurge of this kind of painting around the same time (the portrait of Jahangir, for example), but with very different results. By contrast, this portrait, one of two in the collection, reflects a much more direct debt to European painting. Firstly it shows the use of a foreign technique - painting in oils on canvas. Secondly it employs linear perspective. The European-style architecture with columns and mouldings - rather overdone - is almost a direct quotation of a Van Dyck-style full-length portrait: only the curtain is missing. The position of the vanishing point suggests the existence of a counterpart to this painting, composed to match it. Another pair of full-length “portraits”, of a man and a young woman displays a composition presenting a direct mirror image. These compositional differences suggest the conclusion that the two paintings in the Museum's collection were probably part of a larger group incorporated in an architectural setting such as the pavilion of Chehel Sutun palace or one of the Armenian residences of Isfahan’s New Julfa.

Canada and it's Canadians acknowledge themselves as a Geo-political state which has no real fixed culture or religion but a variety of cultures and religions. It's spoken through their constitution and their government.

A nation is said to be Christian if their constitution and governing system is based on Christianity, Canada is a secular country not a Christian, same thing goes to Turkey it's secular.

.
good to see christian nations like canada respecting Islamic culture sadly christians and other nonmuslims cultural musem are considerd taboo in islamic world...

Canada isn't a 'christian' nation.

Canada is an Atheistic/Agnostic cultural entity...just like rest of the west.

Only "christian" nations are some subsaharan african nations who actually gives a sh!t about christianity...

Haven't you been to Europe, Canada, and U.S.A at all?

Garbage cans have more relevance in Western societies than bible/christianity.

Speaking from my vast experience..

I just didn't want people to get the impression Muslims are being overlooked over here.

Muslims are being over-looked in the U.S.

What about Peter King's "hearings" of Muslims which questioned whether Muslims are true Americans or not?

NO other community has faced such hearings in modern day U.S.

What about rampant anti-Muslim bigotry and racism from American media, specially Fox (THE largest news organization of U.S)? American Media openly propel racism against Muslims. Call government to shut Muslim immigration, deport Muslim students..and so much so...that Fox Channel "protested" the T.V ads which showed American white guy marrying a Muslim girl. Fox OPENLY questioned whether it is right for Americans to marry Muslims?

Again, NO other community can even think of facing such blatant racism and bigotry in today's America. But when it comes to Muslims, it is normal for Americans to be bigoted and hateful.

What about American Police and FBI's illegal spying of Muslim households, Muslim businesses, and even Muslim students who were children!!

Can you expect this happening to any other community?

The man is from New York so you are going to have expect he is a little outspoken.

The vast majority of Muslims are law abiding peaceful citizens and I'm sure he will agree.

However there are radicals and some of them are dangerous and live here. Keep in mind there was an attempt back in 1993 1993 World Trade Center bombing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The perpetrators were arrested.

His beef is his "perceived" lack of cooperation of the NY Muslim community in both investigations and failures of some of their leaders to openly denounce it. Yet many were showing outspoken sympathy to the "blind cleric"
Omar Abdel-Rahman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia who was part of the 1993 masterminding.

So he's doing the "unAmerican" hearings to point them out.

Stop justifying uncivilized behavior of dumb Americans by quoting some bs from freaking two decades ago!!!

Also, what do you have to say about this then?

Can you imagine fox news protesting the marriage of a white American and a Jewish girl saying it makes people "uneasy"?

Tell me?

C'mon you can claim a few are pointing fingers at the Kurds as a whole due to the actions of the PKK. You know full well that is stupid and most people are not inline with that.

Fox calls Obama and idiot traitor almost every day. Everybody knows they are extreme.

Well, I can only hope as you said "everybody knows they are extreme."

Recent polls have shown approval ratings for Muslim Americans to be at 27% ...

That's some insane levels right there...
