Norouz at the tomb of Cyrus the Great

Your 'respect' for the nation and your disrespect for their government- the backbone of the nation & symbol of the peoples' will. Here is the contradiction.

Oh please...do all Bangladeshis love your Awamy dalal govt..? If not why shouldnt the same standard be applied to Iranians ?

Look you did not get my context or my point..Just rest your case.

That was just a post of convenience! He didn't think that an Egyptian would be here.

Au contraire, I have met interacted with couple of Egyptians during my stay in Middle East and my opinions were based on their views about what is happening in Egypt..Agreed two is a small number but still better than nothing.

well, I can assure you that those views don't represent the vast majority, or any minority matter of fact in the Egyptian society. What's not to be proud about anyway ?

Really. How many Egyptians are proud of their great pre-Islamic heritage today? How many even know the names of the Pharaoh who built the great Pyramid?

if that mad Texan cowboy had not destroyed the hanging gardens of Babylon in Iraq, the coming Iraqi generations would have taken pride in them too.

I am glad that they do so. I have read earlier that for many they are just tourist attractions and not something they relate to as part of their ancient and proud heritage.

If that is not true or is changing, it is all the better.

Much has been lost due to fanaticism and extremism.

Well I have seen many converts who despise their pre-islamic pagan culture (irrespective of great the civilization was) and refuse to associate themselves with any of that and instead tend to create a new identity for themselves based on the religion, which for all sakes and purposes might have even been forced upon their ancestors on the edge of the sword.

If the Egyptians are not like that ( I take your word for that) and still identify themselves with their pre-Islamic past...my wishes.

p.s.:- I am sure there would have been many pre-islamic festivals in Egypt considering it had a glorious civilization of about 3000 years..Are any of them still celebrated now ?

It is a positive thing that they are treating their heritage with respect. I think they need their own psychological space to evolve their own unique identity which may blend various historical influences to various degrees. Let's not be too demanding.

Sham El neseem is the only one celebrated by almost all Egyptians, it is a very big festivals. Its a day in which ancient Egyptians celebrate the beging of the spring. Most of the other festivals were religious and were replaced long before Egypt was Islamic by the Romans, and the Egyptians since most Egyptians were Christians. Pre- Islamic festival all exist, since we have a huge Christian community in Egypt, and they have their Christian festivals. We also have this, which is pretty cool and amazing Abu Simbel Sun Festival « February « Somewhere in the world today…

You are saying something no Iranian here ever said. They say they need this govt and you, a complete stranger to Iran, decide the contrary!

Iranians celebrating Norouz in Egypt, just saw this video today, thought it would be fun to share it.
